92 Cavalier. Starter Problems

I have a 92 Cavalier RS 2.2L 4 Cyl. Just put a new starter in back in November, and now sometimes it'll start, and sometimes it will not. Sometimes it takes 2 cranks to engage starter! Could I have a bad starter?? Drives fine when started, no problems what-so-ever!

Yes, on occasions doesn't rotate the engine crankshaft.

Could be a loose wire on the starter , check your connections

i have bought 2 starters in a row from advanced auto that was bad, and also check to see if your motor is leaking oil onto the starter, that can cause it to act like that

When you say it takes "2 cranks" to engage starter do you mean the starter motor runs but on occasions doesn't rotate the engine crankshaft?

If that is the case, the starter motor drive clutch is faulty.
Perhaps it was a reconditioned starter motor that was fitted and it didn't have the clutch drive re-newed.

Were is starter relay on 92 chevy cavalier

Check the crank/start fuse. Also check to see if the security light is on. Reset is 10 minutes on, 30 seconds off, then start. relearn is 3 times this, start after the third time, for security. If still no start, check the wire going from the ignition switch to the starter.

I have a 1997 chevy cavalier with a 2.2 liter 4 cyl. starter wont disengage tried to new starters and relay and its still does it. It worked fine before i had to replace the starter.

disconnect the s terminal on the starter and connect the battery, if the starter engages then its the starter, if it doesnt check the voltage on the small wire it should be dead unless the key is in the start pos

Turn the key and only the dash lights come on, starter does not turn over. if you rock the car sometimes it will start

my 2000 cavalier was doing the same thing. My dad found that I had a lose connection to my starter. there is a cluster of wires if you pull up on it it will tighten a bolt and my car started after that. Now I have a whole new set of problems. Good Luck!

92 RS Camaro, Replaced battery and now car has no power?

are your battery post bolts clean and tight, my 89 rs ran fine untill i decided i wanted shiny new battery bolts, when i put them in and tightened them down my car had no power at all, i checked how tight they were, and they were TIGHT so i wiggled the black cable and re tightened it and bam my lights turned on, tryied starting it, and it started, sometimes you just gotta make sure the connection is really good, not just how tight it is, also check your ground wires, there are a few but the main 2 are located at the front pass side next to the batt, and on the back firewall going from the bottom pass head to the firewall, hope that helps, if not comment back

Starting problems

Remove the ignition module and have it tested, most Napa stores will do this. Make sure its good. Have them test it several times to make sure. If there is any variations, replace it.Is this a 4 cyl. or 6 cyl. truck?
