How much would it approximately cost to fix the head gasket in a 1994 Pontiac Sunbird?

The head gasket(s) in my 1994 Pontiac Sunbird is/are out, according to my mechanic brother. He's relatively inexperienced, but assuming he's right, how much would that cost to replace?

SOURCE: How much would it cost to fix the head gasket

More then that. Especially if your head is damaged. I blew a head gasket on mine due too my thermostat being broke. But I was gonna be charged about 380$ ALONE if my head was damaged bad. but luckily It was only warped about 21mm and needed 1 valve seal. All that cost me $180 alone. Plus head gasket set another $100. New water pump, Thermostat; $90, New oil, oil filter $30. So yeh a blown head gasket is pretty expensive, even if you do it your self.

i assume the shop was talking about heater core being bad and even if heater core is bad they should be able to test for a head gasket being bad actually you can totally bypass the heater core so there no reason to fix that before you check for a head gasket being bad
and if you have run for three months without coolant you will be extremely lucky if the head gasket not blown or head or block cracked
i would do nothing about the heater until car is checked for blown head gasket
honestly i would take the car some where else because they are either trying to screw u or have no idea of what there doing

The oil is mixing with the water in my pontiac sunbird 1994, what can I do?

If you have overhead cam(s), it's probably a cracked head or blown head gasket. the head will have to come off and be tested for cracks.
If your cam is not overhead, a cracked engine block is likely. :o(

How do i replace the head gasket on a 1991 pontiac sunbird?

Have you ever done a head gasket before? If not I would suggest buying a manual. Most parts stores sell them for about 25 dollars. They are well worth it.

Occaisonal Rough Idle, clears after revving/driving

You should have your cooking system pressure tested. Withe the engine cold, Look in the coolant recovery bottle and note any bubbles where the hose is submerged at its end. If you got bubbles, you got troubles.you have a combustion leak passing through the head gasket or a cracked head. good luck
