Engine driveabitity no it doesn't shut off. your driving awhile and all of a sudden the engine may lose a little power and become sluggish and then you feel a glitch. no engine lite, no codes, fuel trim is good. it may happen 4 or 5 times and may not do it at all. once you turn the key off and restart engine, everything is good until it happens again

It's recalled, what , you dont watch TV?, (id dont either) but do read WSJ.com
and GM has recalled massive cars. for bad ignition switch.
(using insane heavy key chains is true cause, not GM, IMO)

get it fixed for free, heck even other thinks related for free, as they dont
want any lawsuits. related to ENGINE DIES> and AIR BAGS DIES>
go get em.

there is no code for lost power, (till newer cars) but my scan tool allows me to monitor ECU battery pin power, and you can see it fall. and lots more, or even see a COM FAIL, while logging, BINGO lost POWER.

At 2000 rpm my 87 Toyota pickup the check engine light comes on and it loses power

I'm a mechanic by trade and I see this all the time. Many things can happen that cause this, bad gas, I see this more and more, a clogged fuel filter, bad spark plugs and wires, but the first competent I check is the O2 sensor. This sensor can become clogged and fill with black soot, when they go out the car can become sluggish, losing power and will affect fuel mileage

Why does the engine become sluggish when A/C is running?

The air conditioner runs off of the motor and takes a good deal of power away from it. I ALWAYS shut my air off when preparing to pass a vehicle or getting on an on ramp.Unless you have a diesel or a V 8 the air conditioner will affect your performance of the motor greatly.

Just shut off the care returned 2 hours later no go got a boost went for a drive left the car running for awhile than it start to get like it was going to stall went on g=for a littlwe while than died....

Hi your problem sounds like the battery is gone and won`t take a charge. When your engine is running the alternator is supplying the electrical power to run the car ( and normally charging the
battery as well )
Even though it seems strange for the battery to go suddenly, it does happen.
How old is the bat. Most last about 5 years with normal driving ( batterys last longer if the car is used every day )
Anyway i hope i have been of some help to you.

Sluggish loss of power and popping noises from engine

Clean the distributer cap in the inside, it has water in it thus causing all the noises and the back fire.

Loses power while in drive.

To what degree do you lose power and in what way? Do you loose over-drive or does it loose power and speed (on the streets, highway, or at any speed). From your discription it does sound like either a fuel flow/pressure issue or a clogged cat.

Loss of power and drive but engine is still running

The water bubble under the dash might be a heater core, and the slow and sluggish might be caused by the transmission, try checking the wires and plugs, they may need to be replaced, we just changed out the wires and plugs on ours and it did wonders!
