1998 mercury mystique 2.0 vct timing belt issue

Ok so my timing belt broke so im in the process of changing it only to find out that in order to do so the cam sprockets must be loosened to correctly set the exhaust timing cuz of the vct system well after trying a 650ft lb impact gun and a four foot breaker bar the exhaust bolt will not loosen. I was thinkin of heating it up but that would probly cause issues inside the vct clutch so im at wits end any ideas is there anyway to get the correct timing without loosening this bolt loading the spring or something PLEASE HELP!!

SOURCE: I am trying to loosen a caliper bleeder valve.

Try hitting the area around the bleeder with a hammer .. it may help .. bleeders are tough if they don't go after being heated/lubed. You could try loosening the line into the caliper .. that may allow enough of a bleed, banking on the fact that there is still brake fluid in that caliper .. otherwise you may end up replacing that caliper.

SOURCE: I am trying to release belt tension on 1999 taurus

To remove a belt from a Ford Taurus you need to be putting the wrench on the bolt on the pulley not the mounting bolt. The tensioner is like a spring so while trying to turn the pulley bolt counter clockwise the tensioner will release tension off the belt ...If your on the right bolt and it is loose you may need to pry up on the tensioner and try removing the belt that way and then you have to make sure the pulley nut get tighten before replacing belt.

SOURCE: in replacing a water pump in a 1997 ford coutour,

they dont have marks, we at the dealership use a special tool. you can make your own marks. if you reuse the timing belt make sure that you mark the direction, crank pully bolt you can get a chain wrench from auto zone that will wrap around the pulley and lock down to hold it. i have used this when an impact wasnt handy.

SOURCE: dont know which bolt loosens the belt for

A 3/8" ratchet is needed to attached to the belt tensioner which will allow you to releive the tension to remove and to reinstall the belt. It will fit right inside the square 3/8" square hole on the tensioner

On the 1999 mercury mystique I don't believe the timing is adjustable? Your PCM (powertrain control module) will take care of it.

Do you need to replace the timing belt when you change a water pump for a 1998 mercury mystique v6?

You don't have to replace it but you have to take the belt off to remove the water pump for the extra $30.00 i would recomend changing the belt too, unless the belt has been changed less then 20,000 miles ago .

DTC P1383 at smog test what is causing it?

The P1383 is most likely a slipped timing belt due to being old, and is past the changing interval. However, you could also have a bad solenoid on the variable cam timing. Camshaft advance mechanism binding on the VCT unit is something you will have to get repaired before the damage gets expensive.

Can I swap these engines?

The 1997 doesn't have variable cam timing does it? If it doesn't it won't work. You would be better off just fixing the head.
