Volume of air coming from a/c ducts is very slight

2001 Grand Prix GT - only in the two highest fan speed positions 4&5 will the volume of air begin to cool the vehicle. Duct temp. is 42 degrees. I was able to expose the squirrel cage fan behind the wiper and it is clean.

Sounds like a bad blower resistor-thats why you have no speeds 1,2 or 3. the resistor will either be near the blower motor(the squirrel cage u spoke about) OR under the dash on the passenger side just above wher the passengers feet would be.it will have usually 2 screws holding it in and wires going to it.

    I have the same car (2001 Grand Prix GT) and only the first setting worked on the blower control. Turns out it was the blower resistor! You can get one at any auto parts store for about $20.00 I think. It is located just under and behind the glovebox. Bit tough to get to but, I never did one before and I replaced mine in about 1 hour. Now, all 5 settings work! You can prob search the net for "how to replce blower motor resistor on grand prix GT". Good luck with some REAL advice!

01 grand.prix ac fan switch only works on high. has a duel temp controller when you turn fan off the only way fan comes back on is to move the temp controller levers
Hi!!
When the Blower Motor Resistor (controls blower speeds) goes bad, the blower motor works only on HIGH SPEED. REPLACE IT.
BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR Removal & Installation
  • Disconnect negative battery cable.
  • Remove right lower instrument panel insulator panel.
  • Disconnect blower resistor connector located behind right side of dash.
  • Remove blower resistor screws and blower resistor.
To install, reverse removal procedure

Int. Fan blower has given up! - No interior heat or a/c.
Go to Autozone.com and enter 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix in the repair info area and you will be able to view an online Chilton' s manual for free. Good Luck!

1997 Pontiac Grand Prix GT; Elec problem with fan
Replace the blower resistor that is mounted next to the blower motor on the passenger side of the vehicle.
This will restore correct blower operation and I suspect it is also back-feeding voltage resulting in your electrical issues.
Two screws hold the blower resistor into the heater case and it is very easy to replace.

Blower fan only works on high
CHECK THE HVAC CTRL FUSE.

WITH A TEST LIGHT CHECK THE BLOWER RESISTOR FOR POWER ON THE YELLOW, TAN, PURPLE, AND LIGHT BLUE WIRES. THE ORANGE WIRES CONTROL THE HIGH SPEED CIRCUIT. DO THIS FOR EACH POSITION OF THE BLOWER SWITCH.

THE BROWN WIRE ON THE HVAC CONTROL CONNECTOR 1 POSITION B COMES FROM THE HVAC FUSE 20 AMP. NO POWER ON THAT WIRE WILL CAUSE THE BLOWER TO NOT FUNCTION ON THE LOWER SPEEDS.

Climate control switch does not work in lower modes only in high.
The pontiacs have an issue with the ignition switch, I have a 2001 grand prix that did the same. The ac fan would only work on 5 and the headlights would go off if on 1-4 replace the switch and all is fine.

Call your local GMC Dealer and see if they have the climate control panel in stock. What happens is the circuit board on the back of the panel shorts out. The panel comes as an assembly and is very easy to replace. Don't go with a wrecking yard piece. I made that mistake once and it didn't work either. I got one from the Chevy dealer and it worked perfectly.
