What causes 2011 jeep liberty to grind in front when accelarating

jack up jeep get tire off ground spin wheel if you have grinding noise replace wheel bearings as they are probably shot
then again it could be something else

Yes. When was the last time you had the starter changed? Has anyone crawled under the vehicle to check for a loose starter? If the starter does not engage it may be the starter solenoid ( the thing that drives the gears into contact before the starter actually turns ). This might not be ramming the gears together properly and that will cause the grinding noise, as well as an intermittent start.

the starter grinds because the bushings at each end are worn .or if the engine has been removed and replaced,, the person didnt replace the spacers from the starter and bell housing which keeps the starter gears from going too deep into the fly wheel makeing a grinding sound. the intermittent starting problem could just be the check valve on your fuel system bleeding back . need more info.

Once you hear grinding, that means that an internal bearing, bushing etc has failed and the gears are no longer running true. Continued use will cause metal debris to be generated that will contaminate all other bearings and cause excessive wear on the gear faces. Unless you intend to replace the entire unit, it should be repaired immediately. The more damage done, the higher the cost.

Was the Rotors turned on the last front brake Service?....Sounds like uneven rotors in front

Is the noise in the front or middle? If it's in the front, it is most probably a wheel hub or differential case bearing. First I would check (or replace) all the gear lube in the transfer case and both differentials.
If the sound is under the middle of the jeep, it's probably a front output bearing in the transfer case.
