Changing the oil pump is not easy, the oil pump is situated in the engine oil sump. So you have to go under the car and remove the oil sump pan to get at it. First you have to drain the oil. I recommend you buy a repair manual such as Haynes from a auto parts shop for about $15 before you start the job and follow the instructions in the manual. Good luck

Why the oil light came on and off, I had change the new pump, pick up screen, and change the oil sending unit ?

Most likely the oil pump light will come on if the oil pressure is low. This light is based on a pressure sensor. Your oil pump is likely not operating to deliver the required pressure. Check that your pump is installed properly.

No oil pressure, ticking motor

Possibly a failed oil pump. Check engine oil level first.Make sure it is at least to the safe zone on your engine dipstick. if the motor has not had regular oil changes ( i change mine every 3000 miles like clock work) the oil can sludge and clog oil passages and pickup screen to oil pump.

Changed the head in a 2000 chevy venture as soon as van starts low oil presure light comes on. Did oil change and put in new oil pump still low oil light on. Help

Two things I can think of. did you prime the new oil pump?. If so the oil pump by pass valve may be stuck open. I often prime a pump with petroleum jelly as oil often leaks out .

Low oil pressure warning light comes on. oil level is ok

four theories.. two easy.. two not so easy.
one. oil filter is plugged.- change the filter
two. the pick up screen in the oil pan is clogged.- remove oil pan(if you go this far change the oil pump on speculation)
three. the oil pump itself is worn out of tolerance.- remove oil pan, change pump
four. the sensor is defective- change the sensor on side of engine.

I have steam coming out of my vents when my oil light comes on.i just had an oil change and it still does it.also my defrost doesnt work.it turns on and blows but my windows dont clear.my car is a 94 jetta

the oil light coming on is the most serious .. those cars have a problem with sludge buildup in the crankcase .. usually that happens if the oil isnt changed on schedule .. but sometimes even then ... replacing the oil filter and using a good synthetic oil might make a difference if its not too bad ... the oil pressure switch could be bad or (most expensive), the oil pump could need replacing or cleaned ... you can have an oil pressure test done to determine if the pump is ok .. it is not safe to drive the car if the oil pump is bad, or if the crank case is full of sludge .. serious and expensive damage can happen to the engine .. the pressure switch is not expensive and easy to change .. if the oil pump pressure is ok then i wouild change the pressure switch .. sludge often clogs the intake screen of the oil pump .. then it cant pump oil .. of course this can quickly damage the engine .. you can drop the pan and clean out the sludge but they often just change the oil pump while they have the engine apart .. once its cloged then it can be damaged itself ..
the steam coming out of the vents could be the results of engine overheating (from lack of oil) or a leak in the heater core ..

How are is it to replace the oil pump. just

Yes it can, do an oil change and filter. If oil isn't changed at regular intervals, the filter can become clogged and won't get a good flow.
It's best to change the oil every 3 months or 3,000 miles, whichever comes first.
Changing the pump is not an easy job.
