Several reasons could cause this:
1. Gauge faulty
2. sensor faulty
3. communication bus faulty
4. worn out engine

Agreed with the above answer. Start with the sensor as that is the most likely culprit.

you never said when, and how much.
oil pressure at idle can be 10psi and 3 times that at high rpm. (or bad oil, or fuel in the oil or some snake oil bs added)
5: pump is doing that?, it's pressure reg stuck open, and now runs wild. it will.

OP why not use a real PSI gauge there
    a shop pressure gauge,?
it's accurate and does not lie to you
    that is always first step
    not guessing.

so you guess an the dash guage is not fibbing and you wreck a good engine.
    no
we use a shop gauge first
then let TRUTH guild your next actions.
    or lunch a good engine
so far, seems your on the good side of lucky... (nice no?) glass 1/2 full side.
    why risk an engine.?
    simple basic logic here.
respect the value of the engine.

SOURCE: LOCATION OF LIGHTER FUSE FOR 1996 JEEP GRAND

If you have the owner's manual look up fuses in the index, good illustration. If you don't, I do. It shows a relay and a 15 amp fuse. Look at the passenger kick panel, pull the cover, and it is #2 fuse (second from the top on the left) The see the relay you may have to pull the panel (two screws and a clip) the relay is the third cavity down, third row from the firewal side.
Let me know if this works for you?

SOURCE: 95 grand cherokee oil pressure switch

Use a deep well socket and extension, it lives by the distributor.

SOURCE: i need to know where the oil pressure sensor is

It is located on the right passenger side of the engine near the oil filter housing. It threads into the engine block. It may also be located near the distributor on some 1996 models. Disconnect the single wire connected to the sensor, and use a socket to remove it. Wrap the threads of the new one with teflon tape, and install the new one hand tight and then tighten it 1/4 turn more with the socket. Reconnect the electrical connection.

1996 jeep grand cherokee oil pressure gauge flutters car wont run

If the oil pressure is not above 5 or 10psi, the fuel pump will not get power. The engine should start and die.
The pressure sending unit may be faulty, or the engine oil pressure may be very low.

My oil pressure gauge goes to the H

Not really , when you give it gas it creates higher pil pressure at higher engine speeds, when the engine slows down there is less pressure on the oil.

Have high oil pressure reading when driving goes down to 55-60 when sitting at light,2000 jeep grand cherokee laredo 2-wheel drive 4.0 litre engine

the 1st thing that needs to be done is have a mechanical oil pressure test gauge hooked up to confirm the actual reading, the electronic gauge many times is incorrect.

94 jeep grand cherokee oil pressure and engine temp?

I'm guessing your engine is'nt making any tapping noise with the low oil press.
Your oil pressure sending unit is most likely the culprit.
Is your car smoking when the temp. goes up?
You engine could be air bound or thermostat could be opening too late (might need new one).
PLEASE DO NOT OPEN THE RADIATOR CAP WITH A HOT ENGINE.
