These refer to the secondary air intake system , insufficient flow . this could be an electrical fault or a component such as the relay , solenoid etc, follow this link for more info

Did you check the Vacuum lines to the Secondary air Valve Controls. They may be rotten. Can you do a Smoke test. Replace dry rotted lines with either 3/16 Fuel or Power Steering Hoses if you do not get ORM Vacuum lines/hoses. smog pump ? There is no such thing . What size engine does your ION have ? 2.0 , 2.2 ,2.4 L Has
secondary air injection system .

bank 1 is the side of the number 1 cylinder ---you didnt specify vehicle but this is a generic code and the following link will help you in solving your problem

My 2007 bmw 328i coupe is flashing codes p143e and p143 and p0491 what do they mean?

Ok the p143 or 143e code is 02 censors ! Located on the exhaust pipe . And on BMW Is got to cost some $$$$.the p0491 Is the air intake control censer! Should be located somewhere next to the air cleaner. Hope this helps and good luck !!
