Hi my car is actually 2004 model it wont allow us to drive more than 3000 rpm we had a diagnostic machine on and it says cam sensor but wen checked the cam was fine plse help
Which engine, most cars have many engines choices.
if the ECU/PCM sets the CAM sensor (CMP) that can be 2 things
loose cam belt, or loose chain, some have belt some have chain.
if the belt is loose, the cam bounces, and the CMP sees that and gets confused, or the sensor is bad. (or just dirty clean it)
RPM limit can be stuck in limphome mode, or lean fuel
or too rich misfire, i see you mech is not so good, here state side any ASE mech would find it fast. (scan tool PIDS)
so enigne which is it. never post engine question to any one, unless you can state the engine, name and number.
let me give and example.
Petrol
Both 1.4 and 1.8 are available as flexfuel in Brazil.
Diesel
Petrol
Diesel
more....
it is near impossible to fix any engine not know which one it is.
and 10x on line. we are blind here, but not your mech.
i looks and goes, ahh, z16XSE or...
but your mech, fire him, find a real one and one that has a scan tool., knows how to read live data and how to check the belt for loose or slipped. or just a dirty cmp.
btw those errors mean the CMP is reading wrong. only why is in question, it is reading wrong. for sure.
the CMP can trip for 1 pulse in 10 bad. its a very sensitive test.
with VTT engines more parts to mess cam locations or jog.
variable valve timing, that.
post back your engine. on our cars the VIN tells this tale.
on non usa cars the fire wall chassis tag has engine type clearly stated. read it.

hi thanks for getting back to me
My engine type is 1.6 16v Ecotec
the cam sensor will report bad , intermattanly for 3 reasons, its dirty clean it. its bad, or the cam drive is loose (belt or chains) if you have a scan tool youd have seen the sensor throw, DTCs, for cam sensor then clear, that it can clear FAST. the monitor for the cam sesnor can report 1 pulse in 10 bad. or with VVT late. this is how the monitor works, check for cam drive slack, check for black crap on the cam sensor, some sensors cant get dirty but I eye ball in and in1second answer. but i cant help beause you neve posted exact engien type. exactly.
1.6 ecotec. , see my soltion1. the cam sensor can fail a tiny moment and clear. one common reason is cam bounce, how many miles on this engine
or ecotec, has belt and GM had to recall all the early engines (<55k) to replace the early to fail belt. if the belt, is loose, the belt flops if the belt flops, the cam timing does same and the ECUs see this, and reports it, infact on some engines its is blessing because interference enigne blow up with the belt snaps. look up your engine for that fact, i dont have it.
i clean the sensor, and look at the belt for it being ,end of life, or flopping. first. if the belt is perfect and tensioned to spec, then a new cam sensor, if engine has VVT, the more test.
we dont have Opels here, so cant see details, but i listed the hit points.
10 years x 20k is 200k or ? what? our engine, is interference. so... do the 60k service or pay the price later..... bent valves.
