Honda Accord Rear Brake Caliber Is Locked Up, Causes & Expense?

Sounds like the ABS system is messed up. Yes, it's expensive, since it's a Honda. But brakes are not something to mess with.

What is abs

Anti-Lock Brake System. Its a system which works in a way that when you slam on the brakes it sends a "pulsing" type of pressure to the brakes, letting them slow you down without locking up and causing you to slide.

Smokes by pasanger front tire once in a while

sound like one of your caliper is getting stuck or lock. The seal to the piston probably worn out causing the piston in the caliper not to work properly. The piston in the calipers design to move back and forth to release the pressure off the brake disk. when the piston is lock it cause the brake pad and brake disk to rub causing much friction and heat, long period of braking can cause a fire. getting a rebuilt caliper is much easier to replace than have a mechanic rebuilding the old one. you can check if the calipers is lock up by touch and feel the outer hub of the wheel to see if its hot. if its feel hot and smell hot, replace the caliper.

Abs light on

Hi:
The first thing to determine on your car is if it is safe to drive: Check your brake fluid level in the reservoir, and make sure you don't detect any leakage around any wheel/ tire areas. Your ABS light can be scanned and tell you what tripped it. Most auto parts stores, such as auto zone, will do this for free. The most common cause is usually a bad or dirty wheel speed sensor, but have your car checked out to narrow down the problem.

1994 sentra...can't find the reset for the shift lock

there is no reset for shift interlock if you turn the key on and you press the brake down and hold it for a minuite or so WITHOUT touching the shift lever yet and it comes out of park, then the problem is most likly soda or ther liquids that have been spilled in the shifter area over the years and caused the shift silond to become sticky .would need to be cleaned

Rear brakes lockup when you touch the pedal

there is a brake regulator on modern systems which controls the power between the front and the back breaks this maybe defective

when a car breaks most of the breaking force is placed on the front breaks as that is where most of the energy is heading so the car sinks down. if the same amount of breaking force is placed on the back wheels as they rise they have less friction as the weight is forward so they will lock up.
the device is designed to maintain more force to the front, if it fails the system will apply even force to all wheels.

recommend cosulting a certifed garage or local dealership about this problem.
Warning; continual driving with defctive breaks is illegal and may result in injury or loss.

Sometimes the brake peddle has a lot of pressure. When this happens, the car slows down quickly (without touching the brakes) and i have to give it more gas to start off. It does not pull to one side or...

Either there is air leak in the system or the brakes need to be bled.
On abs models, the abs light comes on because of the common faulty abs pump or circuit.

R/h rear brake locks up

Does it lock when cold (when 1st driven for the day) or after driving for a while? Pull off the wheel and drum and check for evidence of brake fluid (a leaking brake cylinder) or grease (a bad axle grease seal), either of these can cause the brakes to 'grab' or lock up. If this is what you find, you need to correct the leak problem and replace the brake shoes, which have become contaminated with the fluid. You should always change both rear or front brakes together for the best performance. Also check to make sure the springs and other hardware have not broken or become detached from their mounting positions. After driving for a while, carefully touch the wheel where the lug nuts are to see if that wheel is hotter to touch than the others. If it is, the brakes are 'dragging', not releasing completely as you drive, and heating up. This will also cause them to 'grab' or lock up. If this is the case, back off on the adjuster to see if that solves the problem, but more likely, it is a bad brake cylinder (corrosion inside the brake cylinder) which is causing it to hang up, and not release when you take your foot off the brake. If this is the problem, replace the brake cylinder at the rear wheel, and flush out the brake lines to avoid a similar problem in the near future with the other wheels. If the wheel was overheating due to the problem, you also need to replace the brake hardware(springs do not work properly when severely overheated).

Cruise control not working, when turning ignition

sounds to me as if you need a new ignition switch there is a metal rod that allows the locking of the shifter and as far as cruise is concerned the lever itself goes bad often but check to ensure the vacuum line going from thet intake to the round ball is in tact and not rotted out or disconnected but the shifter is locked from the ignition switch itself if you remove the plastic housing that surrounds it you should see the rod that runs down the steering column and look for the obvious anything thats come disconnected etc .

My 04 rear driver side tire keeps locking up while driving

CHECK YOUR CALIPER FOR BINDING ( RUST BETWEEN THE CALIPER AND THE BRACKET ). MAKE SURE THE PISTON MOVES FREELY BY PUSHING IT BACK INTO THE CALIPER. REMOVE THE ROTOR AND CHECK THE PARK BRAKE SHOE HOLD DOWN, IT MAY BE BROKEN.

DID RUST BUILD UP ON THE PARK BRAKE AREA OF THE ROTOR CAUSING IT TO TOUCH THE PARK BRAKE SHOE WEARING IT DOWN. THE CLEARANCE SHOULD BE AROUND .026. I ADJUST THE SHOE TILL IT TOUCHES THEN BACK IT OFF 6-7 CLICKS ON THE ADJUSTER. NOT THE WAY IT SHOULD BE DONE BUT IT WORKS.
