If the sump was repaired recently could it or poor workmanship cause the guide belts or cam belt to break?

Timing belt needs to be replaced every 100000 km at the most . Do you know when it was replaced last ?
Did they remove the front pulley (The one on the crankshaft)?
The Timing belt and AUX belts are not related to the sump but they are related to the crankshaft pulley , Depending on the type of repair carried out they may have removed the pulley in order to replace the crankshaft front oil seal.If I was replacing a crankshaft oilseal due to oil leaking I would have fitted a new Timing belt as well as Tensioner , Idler/s , Water pump (if driven by timing belt) as well as the AUX belts as Oil can damage rubber .
Hope this makes sense to you ?
Looking forward to your reply
Regards
George

2003 VW BEETLE 1.9 DIESEL REPLACE TIMING BELT & TURBO ENGINE STARTS HAS NO THROTTLE RESPONSE STARTS SMOKING HAS CODE PO251

If you have replaced the timing belt on your 2003 VW Beetle 1.9 diesel and the engine starts but has no throttle response and is smoking, there could be a few different issues causing the problem. Here are a few things you can try to troubleshoot the issue:
  1. Check the timing belt: Make sure the timing belt is properly installed and tensioned. If the timing belt is not properly aligned or tensioned, it can cause the engine to run poorly and produce smoke.
  2. Check the turbo: If the turbo is not functioning properly, it can cause the engine to run poorly and produce smoke. Check the turbo for any visible issues and make sure it is properly installed and connected.
  3. Check for any vacuum leaks: If there are any vacuum leaks in the engine, it can cause the engine to run poorly and produce smoke. Check all of the vacuum hoses and connections for any leaks.
  4. Check for any fuel system issues: If there is a problem with the fuel system, it can cause the engine to run poorly and produce smoke. Check the fuel lines and fuel filter for any blockages or damage, and make sure the fuel pump is functioning properly.
  5. Check for any other visible issues: Inspect the engine and its components for any visible issues that may be causing the engine to run poorly and produce smoke. This can include debris or foreign objects that may have gotten stuck in the engine, or damage to the engine or its components.
If you have tried these troubleshooting steps and the problem persists, it may be necessary to have the engine and related components inspected and diagnosed by a professional mechanic. They will be able to identify the cause of the problem and determine the necessary repairs.
In addition to the above troubleshooting steps, it is important to check for any diagnostic codes that may have been stored in the engine control module. The code PO251 indicates a problem with the fuel injector pump, which can cause the engine to run poorly and produce smoke. It may be necessary to replace the fuel injector pump or repair any other components that may be causing the issue.
To accurately diagnose the problem and determine the necessary repairs, it is important to have the engine and related components thoroughly inspected by a professional mechanic. They will be able to identify the cause of the issue and provide a repair plan to get your engine running smoothly again.

How much to fix a coolant and oil leak on a 2000 audi a6?

Normally they fix these, during Timing belt Replacement. For an Audi A6 3.0, the replacement interval guide is every 80000miles or 8 years. Repair time, remove and install is 5hours.
The cost of replacing a belt as part of a routine service could be as little as 5 to 10% of the repair cost following a belt failure.
So if you decide to keep your car, keep in mind to spend at least $1000 for maintenance. Mine was a 2000 Audi A6 T2.7. With two, turbochargers under both sides of the engine. I sold it with 80000miles, without changing the belt. Hope this may help.

Timing OK?

You did it the right way. If you tried to make a full cam revolution you would have hit the pistons with the valves. Put the lower timing cover and crank pulley back on. If the cam marks are aligned right and the mark on the lower timing cover lines up with the mark on the crank pulley, you're good to go.

Last May I had the timing belt done by a professional repairer and now there is a problem with the cam box - it has broken up and lost the oil seal. This is a little heard of problem and the garage's...

How many miles are on the vehicle? Most likely it is due to the fact it is a a Daewoo. There could be a lot of reasons for this. I would just invest in a much safer and reliable vehicle rather then repairing that one. Once I have more information I can assist you further if needed.
Thank you,

Working on a 2000 Audi A8. Need info on changing

If it's anything like the six cylinder engines from Audi, which I'm very familiar with, and from what I remember of the V8, you have a timing belt that drives the water pump, crank, and exhaust cams, and also includes a tensioner and an idler roller. The timing chains come into play in the cylinder heads. What Audi did was to only drive the exhaust cams off of the crank, using the timing belt, and inside each cylinder head there is a timing chain assembly that is used to drive the intake cams off the exhaust cams. On a periodic service (like the timing service) you only need to do the timing belt. The timing chains are only replaced if the tensioners fail - you'll know this by a diesel-like clatter from the cylinder heads. Failure of the chain drive assemblies is very rare, which is good because they're incredibly expensive (on the V6 engines they're upwards of $700 each). If you're doing this job because it's due based on mileage, don't touch the timing chains in the cylinder heads - only change the timing belt, tensioner roller, relay arm, hydraulic tensioner, idler pulley, water pump, and serpentine belt. You can leave the chains alone.

I bought a 2004 Audi A3 2.0 Tdi. The engine was running little rough but it sounded more than a louder than usual diesel knock. While I was driving it suddenly made a louder noice and didn't want to pick up...

i have experienced this when rebuilding engines. and what happens is the crank shaft will not get reground right and that will cause it to walk against the thrust bearings. and that is why you heard the scraping sound. and also if it is not the right fly wheel it will cause the engine to be out of balance sending the catastrophic failure to the crank. also this could be the cause of a lack of lubrication in the engine. I would try to see what work has been done to the car using a car fax report wich you can get online by entering the vin# website is www.carfax.com if you need more info just let me know and i will do my best to answer any more questions you might have

Engine starts after about 20 seconds

my 215000mile Audi a4 starts immediately every time. Very likely to be timing related, especially if it was okay before the belt change. Hard starting for slightly mistimed engines is a known problem.
