Toyota rav4 is quite noisy when waiting traffic lights

Well its tough to diagnose the noisey part without hearing it, but I would suggest having the throttle body cleaned out, its probably just dirty and restricting air a bit.

Vitara 1.6 cuts out

Are you quite sure it is not overheating? Your mention of heavy traffic, ie. stop and go, would tell me that your radiator fans are not working. I had a car with bum electric radiator fans. It worked fine if it was moving a lot. But in slow traffic, it would get warm enough to have a vapor lock or something without setting the engine-hot light.

Not running

Usually the computer is located up under the dash, right side near the top. You know it by seeing a huge silver casing square box. Before changing this expense part, have a diagnostic test run on it for sure. Is the vehicle overheating before it quits in traffic? Before replacing the fuel pump you should have first listened to hear a slight hum for 2 seconds when turning the key to the on position before starting. If you did, then have the pressure check done on the fuel system just before the injectors. If that was about 60 psi, then the fuel pump would not need replacing.
