I have a Mitsubishi Galant S/W V6 1998 manual gear 120 kW. The speedometer freezes at 70 km/hour. My idea is that the speedometer or the speed sensor are damaged or it is an electrical wire problem. What you think the problem can be? Can anybody tell me where I can find the speed sensor?
SOURCE: speedometer sensor
i believe that the sensor is in the front wheel compartment. i think it is the drivers side.
SOURCE: Atmospheric Pressure SensorI have a 2001 Mitsubishi Galant GDI. C
Its located in the air filter housing....The volume air flow sensor also incorporates the barometric pressure sensor and the air intake sensor....If you are replacing either of these sensors replace the volume airflow sensor.......

The next thing would be to test the output of the speed sensor, if there is not a signal from sensor then you could have a problem in transmission or more likely with the speedometer itself. There will be a code set in the Computer for an inoperative speed sensor or signal from the speed sensor. You can go to Autozone to get the computer checked with a code reader for free. If code P0500 is set then diagnose this code first.

Could be either or, or it could be neither. Is the "red light" a transmission temperature warning light? If so, the fluid is over heating and the heat sensor is turning the light on...Check fluid level and the condition of your fluid...if it's off colored and smells burnt, you better have it flushed, refilled and a new filter installed. Heat will kill a transmission faster than anything.
Check the transmission cooler, most montero's had a cooler installed on the front of the vehicle by the radiator...the cooling fins need to be clean, no bugs or debris so air flows through it. Have your vehicle scanned also, if you had a transmission code the computers memory will probably still have it stored, this will be helpful with further diagnosis.
