SOURCE: ABS WARNING LIGHT ON VOLVO V70 1997

ABS light comes on with ignition then should go off when you start the car.
If abs sensor does not turn off after disconnecting the battery, then there is a real problem, a faulty sensor or ABS malfunctioning.
When the ABS led comes on immediately after you start the car and stays on usually is one of the relays.
The main one is called surge arrester relay, if it is faulty usually there have been an overvoltage.
There should be two more, usually located behind the black plastic cover of the ABS.
Testing and changing the faulty relay can fix the problem.

If light turns off on startup, and comes back on when you reach some speed, usually you need to check the wheel sensors. You test them unplugging the sensor located behind the wheel and testing it for continuity with a multimeter.
Use Haynes manual to find locations and specs of relays.
Contact a qualified mechanic if you cannot fix it yourself, problems with ABS may compromise safety of the vehicle.

SOURCE: THE ABS light on my Volvo S70 went on and turned off in a minute.

It should come on for a few seconds with the other lights, but should not stay on for a minute.  If you get an intermittent ABS light it could be a speed sensor or more likely the ABS module.  If you get an ABS light along with a flashing arrow light, traction control light, or  speedometer and odometer goes out, then it is just about guaranteed to be an ABS module issue.  There are online sites that will rebuild ABS units for around $150 or less.  They are pretty easy to remove and install yourself with the right socket.  Google "Victor Rocha".  His site has good information on the procedure and he is well trusted for his rebuilding jobs (I have no affiliation to him or the site).

SOURCE: 1999 jeep grand cherokee abs light has come on.what to do?

actually it could be something as simple as low on brake fluid. check this and then check to make sure you do not have worn brake pads on the tires this can also set a code when one tire stops quicker than the other

ABS light on a 1999 jeep grand cherokee

Hi Amalia:
The ABS warning light comes on when there is a fault in the ABS System. When the light is on the ABS System is not working. A diagnostic scanner computer would be required to pull the trouble code and to diagnose the failed component would need to be repaired or replaced to get the light to go out.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using FixYa, have a nice day.

Abs light stays on in my 97 jeep grand cherokee

The light means there is a problem with the abs pump or one of the sensors for the abs system. Your regular brakes will function normally but while the light is on you have no antilock braking. Abs systems can be fairly complicated, it may be best to take the truck to a reputable repair shop.

I have a 97 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the ABS light constantly stays on. Had breaks done a year ago. any solutions?

Brake work has nothing to do with a check light
or ABS light on dash
You have an ABS System Malfuntion or failure
Retrieve the code,diagnose,and repair

Wheel Speed Sensors are common item to fail

You should have had this taken care of a long
time ago, as soon as the light came on

2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee The ABS light comes on and stays on. What does this mean?

You may have a faulty sensor, most cases a wheel speed sensor, the light is on warning you that you do not have abs basically your car will stop like an old 70's model car before abs. abs atands for anti lock brakes, it keeps your brakes from locking up under extreme braking.

ABS light stays on. No error codes are reported.

road debries snag the harness on anyone of the wheel speed sensors wiring cutting off the power to the sensor will make the light go on and no codes will be stored for that

My 97 jeep grand cherokee makes a chirping sound under front

The noise and the light may or may not be related. The noise may be the wear indicator on the brake pads touching the rotor (they are supposed to do that when brakes are worn) The abs light triggers off a wheel on the axle end. If you have a bad joint on the axle, it could be noisy and causing the wheel to not have the proper clearance to the abs sensor. You really need to take the wheel and brake assembly off and carefully inspect everything. Make sure all abs sensor wires are undamaged...it doesn't have to be at the same wheel that's chirping.
