SOURCE: changing license plate light

take out the 2 srews that hold the assembly in the hatch and remove it then 1/4 twist the socket to remove from lens assm.

SOURCE: 2005 jeep liberty brake lights will not work. I

brake pedal switch, get a wire, unplug plug, bridge circuit and check lights.
plug and switch is high up on the brake pedal not normally easy to get to.

TEST
remove both bulbs from the lamps but leave them on their wires switch on and see if the bulbs are still different brightness if not they the passenger side lamp housing has damaged mirror is dirty or missalined and needs adjustment. if they are different brightness then this may be a earthing problem.

check the fuse in the fuse box : either under the dash, glove compartment. Also, check for any relays under the hood.

  1. Remove the screws that secure the license plate lamp assembly to the rear bumper fascia
  2. Pull the license plate lamp assembly down and out through the mounting hole in the rear bumper fascia far enough to access and disconnect the wire harness connector.
  3. Remove the license plate lamp assembly from the rear bumper fascia.

License plates bulb replacement

The license plate lamps are designed to illuminate the plate and registration tags on your vehicle and make it easily visible to law enforcement. In many states, a burnt out license plate bulb can get you a ticket.

Most likely you are NOT looking at a FUSE FAILURE.

There is NOT a separate fuse for your license.

Plate light does not work, but lights are good and sockets seem good

check bulb the number plate light runs on the same circuit as the side lights so if they are working its got to be a bad earth on the plate light

Need to replace license plate bulb on my 2005

1. Open the hatch and stand under it.
2. Remove pull handle from the inside of the hatch (2 screws under pop panels).
3. Starting in the lower corners, gently pry the entire interior panel from the hatch,
and leave it hanging from the wiper area near the glass.
4. Grasp the bulb housing and twist to the left while pressing inward.
5. Replace with a 1156 bulb.
