Gary, Sensor is 3 to 4 inches above the starter motor on the V6
on 2.4 I4 engines the sensor is behind the timing cover if I am remembering correctly.

Yoy will get a diagram and how to do it from a workshop manual (Gregorys or haynes) as it is involved to explain here. Strongly suggest you have a hyundai qualified mechanic do it as it will save you money in the long run. IT is not just belts that need replacing but idler pullets and hydraulic adjuster (if you have one) as well as crank seal and cam shaft seal. Oil is the biggest killer of timing belts and all except the pulleys have oil in their presence.

I wanted a timing diagram for the 2.0 l engine for the Hyundai Sonata but you were unable to give it to me. So i went to another site called autozone.com and found what i was needing.

never done one so i dont know where they are,didnt you paint the gears before stripping??never mind just do this ,remove rocker cover first ,then no1 spark plug.use a long thin screwdriver to watch piston move to TDC then back off a bit and turn cams ,look for slots or a grove on back or front of the cam or two recesses in the camshaft retaining caps jus in case the timing marks are on the cams,then with the valves closed on no1 and the cams have the largest gaps between valves and cam lobe ,bring pisto up to TDC fiot belt and turn engine on a socket and rachet on the bottom pulley twice to ensure the vaves clear the pistons before you try to start

look for marks on the timeing gears there sould be a couple notches. then bring them center to center

this is easly avaible in a repair manual but any advance auto parts will have it or alow you to right it down out of the book
