My friend has a 97' lumina had same problem...it was the fuel pump..most gargages charged about $400 for the part..however we found it online at autopartswharehouse.com for around $200..alot cheaper, but then had to pay $150 for labor...so it ended up costing $350 but still cheaper...i think you have to drop the gas tank to get to the pump...from what i understand a pain in the ***.
Usually it is easier to lift the rear of the vehicle and put it up on stands and drop the tank from underneath then cut the hole in the body i would never recommend doing that.

Hi, I got really, really lucky with my car. The problem turned out to be a fuel pump relay switch. I was able to fix it myself. I really appreciate all the suggestions. Thanks to all.
