I bought my 97 Camry not too long ago, and recently realized I didn't have brake lights. At the auto store I gave them my make/model/year and they gave me Sylvania 357LL bulbs. Went to put them in and I realized there were no bulbs in my brake lights whatsoever, just empty sockets. Put the new bulbs in and they worked... drove away. But then every time I stopped for more than 5 seconds at a red light, I would start smelling burning plastic. The smell was coming from the trunk/brake lights area. The gray sockets (where the lights are put) are slightly burned looking, a rusty brown around the edges. (I believe they looked like this prior to the new bulbs.) I took the new bulbs out. Still getting that smell slightly when I start up my car but it's less and less each time. Any ideas if it's the socket or the wiring? Should I try a lower wattage bulb even though this is the exact bulb I need?

You have a ground issue.Current from another circuit is running through the lights to get to ground. this causes them to burn out quickly. You need to do a real detailed visual check.A good component wiring diagram and component locator is a requirement here.

YOU MAY NEED A LIGHT FAILURE SENSOR WHICH IS LOCATED IN THE TRUNK ON THE DRIVERS SIDE

You might need a new Brake Light Switch, it is located by the brake pedal.

check all the wiring a rat could have got in and made a nest check the wiring and every thing that you can because a rat can get in and eat the wiring and cause a big mess
SOURCE: Oil leak
This is a big problem, you have to stop using the car. It should not even just sit on idling. Since oil is everywhere your engine is short on oil, if you run it long enough, your engine might seize, i.e. you'll need a new engine.
Hopefully it was due to someone who failed to properly seat the dipstick or the filler cap. Are there any main leaks from the oil pump's hoses? Can you locate the source of the leak? The remaining possibilities are bad and very expensive to fix. This means there is something seriously wrong with your engine. The best possible outcome is to replace the head gasket, if it is leaking out of the head. However, leaking from there should not make it go all over the engine. It would take some time to get all over the engine.
What ever you do, DO NOT START YOUR CAR UP. You'll even have to tow it to mechanic unless you can get the mechanic to get to you.
