I was driving the truck the other day and then when I gave it gas it started hesitating until it got above 2500 RPM. Then, when I stopped at the next light, it started idling out. It stalled out while just sitting there idling. It is a manual truck and I have replaced both the map sensor and the idle air control valve. Neither of them seem to be causing the problem. The oil pump started ticking the other day and I know I need to replace that but a couple of people have told me the oil pump wouldn't be causing the hesitation or the idle out. Please assist. this is my daily driver and I need my vehicle asap. Thanks again.
I have the same truck (88 Ranger 2.9 liter).
Just got an oil change today and the guy said the problem is the FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR, which spits gas and causes idling when stopping. He said this is causing my terrible gas mileage, idling and problems starting, as well as the gas smell.
Check EGR valve this controls idle speed it might have carbon build up hold the valve open. All so check fuel pressure.

I do not know the codes. I do not have an OBD 1 computer and neither does an autozone or advance discount auto parts. So I do not have the code and have to do this the old fashioned way.
there are no lights on no check engine lights or anything. Just the stalling
what are the codes? stop guessing.
