Check fuses first. did you? and test the bulbs?
the car has a transmission (you never said which)
a/t or m/t\ (auto or stick?????)
but BOTH have a reverse switch,
when in reverse the output of that switch to rear. is 12vdc
when you go to reverse. and this is 12vdc then the problem is to the rear. (simple no?) it just a wire. nothing magic here.
it goes to both lamps. (white)
if the car is A/t did you wiggle the shifter in R to see if the lights twinkle? if yes, the PRNDL switch on side of trans is bad.
switch output 0v, bad switch, shift cable not set right and not really in reverse, or bad input to switch (blown fuse )
switch output 12v then all is good up front, in REV. so is bad in rear.
switch voltage like about 6v is shorted wires in rear on the REV feed.
easy huh and 10x more easy if you have a $10 walfart dmm meter, not working blind..... buy one? have one?
If the lights not working check the fuse with a test light, if they appeared to be good remove the bulb and find a good ground to clip your test light with the pointed end of the test light touch the center led witch should be positive if it dont light up check the ground then the wires it self there may be a short or a bad ground and change the bulb if you cant see weather its good or bad and sometime you have to scrape inside or twist the bulb i hope you get some results
SOURCE: autobox only working in first and reverse
Get ready to change your transmission. I just had to and it had the same issues.
