SOURCE: Crankshaft Woodruff Key Removal

You are correct, this key does drive both. While I have never tried to remove the keway with out both pulley and lower sprocket you may be able to (my gut says no but anything is worth trying once) I'd position the keyway at the 12 o'clock postion and with a good pair of needle nose pliers see if the key will roll out as you pull up and away with it. If it will not you'll of course have to remove the front of the engine and pull the timing belt, if over 60K miles on belt go ahead and replace with new.

I hope this may have assited and good luck!

SOURCE: LOOKING FOR TIMING SPROCKET MARKS ON 1995 MIGHTY

If it is the 3.0 liter V6 there is a notch in the timing belt crankshaft pulley which aligns with a small mark above in the casting at the 1:00 position or so. As for the cams, each sprocket has a dimple in it which aligns with a vetical mark pressed in to the back steel dust covers.

I hope this may have assited,

SOURCE: 91 mighty max wont start when cold

Next time when cold and it will not start remove a spark plug or two and see if the engines flooded. If so there are two things that come to mind; 1, worn injectors, leaking as engine sits with time causing difficult starts 2: bad oxygen sensor, if failed engines tend to run rich and the ECU may have your injectors pump heavy amounts of fuel to keep from running lean; often times you'll see poor fuel MPG if O2 sensor failed.

I hope this may have assisted you,
Tom

Timing Chain and Gears REMOVAL & INSTALLATION 2.2L Engine Fig. 1: The timing marks on the sprockets should be in alignment. If not, turn the crankshaft until the marks are aligned 91113p63.jpg

Fig. 6: Compress the tensioner spring and insert a cotter pin or nail in the hole provided to hold the tensioner in position 91113p62.jpg
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the front cover as previously detailed.
  3. Place the No. 1 piston at TDC of the compression stroke so that the marks on the camshaft and crankshaft sprockets are in alignment (see illustration).
  4. Loosen the timing chain tensioner nut as far as possible without actually removing it.
  5. Remove the camshaft sprocket bolts and remove the sprocket and chain together. If the sprocket does not slide from the camshaft easily, a light blow with a soft mallet at the lower edge of the sprocket will dislodge it.
  6. Using a suitable gear puller, remove the crankshaft sprocket. To install:
  7. Press the crankshaft sprocket back onto the crankshaft.
  8. Install the timing chain over the camshaft sprocket and then around the crankshaft sprocket. Make sure that the marks on the two sprockets are in alignment (see illustration). Lubricate the thrust surface with Molykote® or its equivalent.
  9. Align the dowel in the camshaft with the dowel hole in the sprocket and then install the sprocket onto the camshaft. Use the mounting bolts to draw the sprocket onto the camshaft and then tighten to 66-68 ft. lbs. (91-95 Nm).
  10. Lubricate the timing chain with clean engine oil. Tighten the chain tensioner.
  11. Installation of the remaining components is in the reverse order of removal. Fig. 7: Exploded view of the timing chain and sprockets - 2.2L OHV engine 87953107.gif

91 chevy G20

well not sure exactly why it wont line up use something to turn the crank and cam to appropiate position start sliding crank gear until cam gear is touching then start to push both at same time make sure your crank key and cam pin are bothin place On many OHV pushrod engines, the crankshaft sprocket is installed on the crankshaft nose and the crankshaft is rotated to position piston #1 at TDC. At this point, a mark stamped onto the crankshaft sprocket is pointing directly upward (toward the camshaft).
The camshaft sprocket is then temporarily bolted to the cam and used to rotate the cam until a mark stamped on the cam sprocket is pointing directly downward (toward the crankshaft). The sprocket is then removed from the cam (without allowing the cam to rotate).
The timing chain is looped over the cam gear, the mark on the cam gear is positioned directly downward, and the chain is looped around the crankshaft sprocket. When the cam sprocket is attached to the cam, the timing marks on the crank and cam sprockets should be pointing toward one another.
