Disc Brake Pads Removal & Installation Front To Remove:

  1. Remove the cover on the master cylinder and siphon out 2/3 of the fluid. This step prevents spilling fluid when the piston is pushed back into the caliper bore.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  3. Remove the wheel and tire assembly.
  4. Compress the brake piston back into its bore using a C-clamp.
  5. Remove the 2 caliper mounting bolts. Lift the caliper off the rotor.
  6. Remove the inboard and outboard brake pads.
  7. Remove and discard the anti-rattle clips.
To Install:

  1. Thoroughly inspect, clean and lubricate all caliper slide points, bolts and hardware.
  2. Install new anti-rattle clips.
  3. Position the inboard and outboard pads into the support bracket
  4. With the 2 pads in position, place the caliper over the brake rotor and align the holes in the caliper with those of the mounting bracket.
    1. Install the caliper mounting bolts through the sleeves in the inboard caliper ears and into the mounting bracket.
    2. Tighten the mounting bolts to: 74 ft lb. (110 Nm) 1500 series
    • 80 ft lb. (110 Nm) 25/3500 series.
    1. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Lower the vehicle.
    2. Add fluid to the master cylinder reservoirs so they are 1/4 in. (6.35mm) from the top.
    3. Test the brake pedal by pumping it to obtain a hard pedal. Check the fluid level and add fluid as necessary.

      Brake Disc (Rotor)
      Removal & Installation
      Front
      To Remove:

Remove the cover on the master cylinder and siphon enough fluid out of the reservoirs to bring the level to 1/3 full. This step prevents spilling fluid when the piston is pushed back.
Raise and safely support the vehicle.
Remove the front wheels and tires.
Position a C-clamp around the outside pad and caliper; tighten the C-clamp until the caliper piston bottoms in its bore.

Place an index mark on the rotor and hub for reassembly.
Remove the 2 brake caliper bracket mounting bolts.
Remove the brake caliper and brake caliper mounting bracket as a complete assembly. Support the caliper and bracket assembly with a heavy wire.
Remove the brake rotor screw on 1500 series vehicles.
On 25/3500 series vehicles the rotor may be difficult to remove because of corrosion or rust around the hub area. Use the following procedure to remove the rotor.

Clean surface areas and the threaded holes.
Apply penetrating oil to the hub/rotor area.
Install two M10 x 1.5 bolts into the threaded holes of the rotor.
Tighten the bolts evenly to force the rotor off the hub.

                          Remove the rotor.

                      To Install:

Clean the mating surfaces of the hub flange and rotor.
If applicable align the index marks on the rotor and hub. Install the rotor.
Install the caliper and mounting bracket assembly.
Perform the following procedure before installing the caliper bracket mounting bolts.

Remove all traces of the original adhesive patch.
Clean the threads of the bolt with brake parts cleaner or the equivalent and allow to dry.
Apply threadlocker GM P/N 12345493 or equivalent to the threads of the bolt.

Install the caliper bracket mounting bolts.

Tighten to 121 ft lbs (175 Nm) (15 series) and 221 ft lbs (300 Nm) (25 series).

Install the tire and wheel assembly.
                                      Lower the vehicle.
Seat the brake caliper pistons and brake pads by slowly pumping the brake pedal.
Fill the master cylinder reservoir to the proper level.

How do I change the rear brake rotor on my 2006, Toyota Rav 4?

Take off the tire, remove the bolts that hold the brake caliper on. Use a coat hanger to keep the brake hose from stretching. Do not allow the caliper to hang from the hose without support. Grab the rotoe and slide it off the studs.

When buying rotors for a 95 Bronco 4X4 should the rotors be seperate from the hub or should they be attached as one piece? Im getting mixed info from part stores.

The reason you're getting mixed info from parts stores is because it comes both ways.
Look at the following to determine which one you have, 4 wheel disc brakes (floating front rotors) or rear drum brake model (except 4 wheel disc brakes):
Brake Disc (Rotor) REMOVAL & INSTALLATION Except F-Super Duty with 4-Wheel Disc Brakes Fig. 1: Secure the caliper so there is no tension on the brake hose 88289p22.jpg
    1. Jack up the front of the truck and support it with jackstands. Remove the front wheel.
    2. Remove the caliper assembly and support it on the frame with a piece of wire (or something equally secure) without disconnecting the brake fluid hose.
    3. Remove the hub and rotor assembly.
    4. Install the rotor in the reverse order of removal, and adjust the wheel bearing as outlined in Section 1.
F-Super Duty with 4-Wheel Disc Brakes The hub and rotor are individual pieces, allowing the rotor to be replaced independently. The front and rear rotors are the same and are attached with 10 bolts and washers. The bolts are tightened a little at a time, in a crisscross fashion, to an ultimate torque of 74–89 ft. lbs. (100–121 Nm). prev.gif next.gif

How do I change front hub and bearing assembly on 2004 Explorer

Front hub bearing, remove tire, remove caliper and caliper holding bracket, you do not have to remove brake caliper from brake hose, just set it aside, if 4X4 remove front axle nut that goes through center of rotor, also remove brake rotor, disconnect elec, A.B.S connector, remove three bolts on back side of hub bearing, remove hub bearing, some times you will need to knock hub bearing out with a hammer.Reverse to install new hub bearing.

Remove front rotor on 91 f250 4x4 manual lock out

I must be missing something. It should be fairly straightforward. It is pretty much just unpinning the brake caliper and hanging it so that it's weight is supported and removing the brake rotor. Put down the Chilton manual that you are using and go to the autozone.com website and register the truck. It's free and will give you access to an online repair manual. The steps for changing the brake rotors can be found there. There are pics and diagrams and the steps for removing the caliper/pads and brake rotor can be found there. (unless I am missing something) Hope this helped and best wishes.

Front Rotoe removal 1990 Toyota 3Runner

Take off the disk pad, release the pressure.
    1. Loss the brake fluid small fitting on the cylinder, then use one hand slowly loss the fitting and use another hand with flat screw driver pressure the brake pad toward the piston of the cylinder AT THE SAME TIME , as soon as you release the pad a little bit, close the fitting right away, DO NOT LET THE AIR GET INTO YOUR BRAKE LINE. After you release the pad, TIGHT the fitting.

    2. Take off two screws behind the cylinder which connected to the body and remove the cylinder first and then take off the rotor.

    3. When you put back, don’t touch the fitting, after you finish it, check everything is O.K. then start the car, pump the brake several times, until you feel the brake is normal.

For your safety, use emergency brake and also put something behind your rear wheel to completely stable the car.

Good luck, hope this can help you.
