Unless you have really small hands, you are going to have to unbolt the battewry bracket, and move the battery backwards as far as possible. Then you will be able to see the connection where the bulb socket mounts behind the headlamp. There are 2 different styles of bulbs that you may find...
If you see a large rubber ring, remove it, and undo the silver clip to extract the bulb.
If the wiring/socket goes directly into the back of the headlamp, simply twist the socket 1/4 turn, and pull it out.

SOURCE: I need to replace the headlight on my 1994 Toyota Pickup

CAUTION Most headlight retaining rings and trim bezels have very sharp edges. Wear gloves. Never pry or push on a headlamp; it can shatter suddenly.

  1. Make sure the headlight switch is in the off position.
  2. Loosen the parking and side turn signal unit retaining screws. Then remove the units unplugging the connectors.

  1. Next, open the hood to gain access to the grille clips. Using a flat-bladded tool, push on the clips to release them and the grille.

  1. The sealed beam is held in place by a retainer and either 2 or 4 small screws. Identify these screws before applying any tools.DO NOT confuse the small retaining screws with the larger aiming screws. There will be two aiming screws or adjustors for each lamp. (One adjustor controls the up/down motion and the other controls the left/right motion.) Identify the adjustors and avoid them during removal. If they are not disturbed, the new headlamp will be in identical aim to the old one.

  1. Using a small screwdriver (preferably magnetic) and a pair of taper-nose pliers if necessary, remove the small screws in the headlamp retainer. DON'T drop the screws; they vanish into unknown locations.

A good kitchen or household magnet placed on the shank of the screwdriver will provide enough grip to hold the screw during removal.
  1. Remove the retainer and the headlamp may be gently pulled free from its mounts. Detach the connector from the back of the sealed beam unit and remove the unit from the car.

SOURCE: Need to clean headlight plastic covers on 99

These covers can be clarified ON the car. I recommend Blue Magic headlight lense restorer. It is a cream and applies just like polish, use cotton NO paper towels, or synthetics. You may have to apply more than once to completely remove the pitting as yours seem to be very bad, however do NOT try to do the whole lense at once, the trick is small circles on a small area at a time. Wipe with a COTTON towel/rag to remove the residue, then polish with a clean cotton towel to finish. There are other brands that do the same thing, which I have tried. These products are available at Autozone, Advanced Auto, O'Reillys, and Pep Boys, for about $10-$15. I hope I've answered your question. Do not remove the lenses from the headlight assembly as this will cause the need to replace the entire unit. Thank you for trusting FixYa to help get you going!

Cleaned the snow off the Avalon and noticed a loud pop and the right highbeam light had blown out. Within 10 minutes as driving heard the left highbeam light blow out. Never had this happen with any...

There is a Technical Service Bulletin regarding the high beam bulbs on the Avalon. TSB# 0044-10, NHTSA# 10033406. Mind you, this is not a recall, so any repairs the dealer makes will cost you dearly. Since the high beams are standard halogen bulbs, I would recommend that you replace them yourself with Sylvania long life bulbs. If the dealer replaces the entire assembly, it may involve the HID low beams to the tune of $1000 or more. You can contact your dealer and ask for information about the tsb, all the dealerships received the tsb. If he offers to repair it in accordance with the tsp, get it in writing that there will be no charge.

High beam headlights not working

Hello chinson. When the highbeams are not working, the problem is usually the switch. Since this is a 2008, your warranty will probably be in play. Contact your Toyota dealer before you do a self-repair. Joe
