My 2006 Chevy Aveo often revs up to 300 RPM when starting it and eventually goes back down. Recently is was not responding well when I initially take off from 1st gear as it wants to die. Also, I backed out of the drive way and put in neutral and it idled weird, was bouncing rpm's up and down. Please advise as to what this might be.
Hey Jeff, I looked at your site, good job. I can't even imagine the time and effort--knowledge involved. And you have a book.
As far as the question, I'd have to check trouble codes with electronic throttle control. Some of the national brand auto stores will check some codes for free. Don't know if they can check throttle codes?
There are several possible causes. Please read my notes at the link below.

Sounds like you have a vacuum leak. When the engine is cold the leak is there but as the engine warms up the parts start to expand thus closing the gaps and sealing the leak. I had this problem on my personal vehicle and it turned out to be lower intake gaskets.

about all you can do is have the throttle body replaced, unless you have some kind of a vacuum leak, their is no adjustment or even a throttle cable on these cars..

You need to check for intake vacuum leaks. Also did you have the battery disconnected before repair, if not disconnect the neg cable for 10 minutes to reset system to base settings.
