I just ran into this problem as I was rebuilding my 1.3 engine. When you put the mechanical pump back on, you have to be sure the rod that pushes against the pump is all the way in, check this with your finger, you should only feel about 1/4 inch of the rod, if you should feel more, turn the crank with a wrench until it goes in all the way. Then put your pump on making sure that you start both mounting bolts before you begin to tighten, as you tighten gently pull back on the top of the pump, so the lever will line up with the pumps push rod in the head. Your pump will work fine after that.

SOURCE: 89 Suzuki samurai fuel issue

sounds like the electric fuel pump is failing the backfire is a result of a really lean fuel mixture, it is hard to say if u did any damage, most likely not because the pump is inside a anti-slosh baffle

SOURCE: Where do I add transmission fluid for my 1999

You'll have two dip sticks under your hood on the engine. One will be for oil the other for tansmission fluid. You can tell you have the transmission because the fluid is a bright redish color where as the oil should be clearish or black, Denpending on your last oil change. The dip sticks are usually on opisit sides or the engine from eachother but could be on the same side. To check your transmission fluid then you need the emergency brake on and the car in neutral and the motor running. On the dip stick there is notches or tiny lines telling you how much is in it. Here;s a very important point to remember. Transmissipon fluid is checked and measured by pints unlike the oil dip stick which is in quarts. So the marks on the dip stick for the tranny will be one pint per mark. To add transmission fluid they sell a skinny long tube funnel that goes directly into the stem that holds the dip stick. You must shut the engine off to add the fluid and restart it in neutral to recheck it. I hope I have been of some service to you and please be kind with your thumbs up for me. good Luck, Raz

Testimonial: "Thanx Raz. I forgot that tranny fluid was measured in pints & that levels had 2 b checked w/ the engine run'g. RJ Sauve, Cameron, NC"

My 2003 Suzuki Aerio sometimes starts right, sometimes struggles but starts, and occasionally won't start at all. Maybe the starter or ignition switch??

First of all, if the engine turns over, you DON'T need a starter or an ignition switch. Don't fall into the 'let's try replacing this' method of car repair! It is costly and never works.

First replace the cap cap, it is part of the pressurized fuel system and may be the answer to all the issues. $20 from Walmart, or $15 from Napa Auto Parts.

Then connect a code reader and find why that Engine Light comes on. Your vehicle has a computer that records everything that is wrong with it. A cheap code reader gives you the basics, a $5,000 scan tool computer tells you everything, historically and in real time as the vehicle is starting of being driven.

The other thing to check is that the battery is good. Interstate will test for you for free in the parking lot and only takes 2 minutes including the printout. I think AutoZone and Napa also does it.

Try putting in at least three gallons, it it still will not run you have likely fried the electric fuel pump inside the gas tank.

How long does it take 2 replace a fuel pump

On your 2003 Grand Am the pump is in the gas tank, so probably a couple of hours to drop the tank and R&R.

What happens when sugar is put in a 2003 Suzuki Grand vitara gas tank?

If it was done to you, DO NOT start the engine. You will ruin it. You need to remove the tank and fuel lines, fuel pump, the complete fuel system and clean it out to remove all traces of the sugar.
If you are thinking about doing it to someone else, it's NOT FUNNY. It can be extremely expensive to repair and has the potential to cause serious repercussions including possible criminal charges. Depending on where you live it could be classed as assualt.
    Hope this helps.

Would the fuel pump be located in the tank and therefore mean taking the tank off? and do u think is should help with the low power (missing)?

If the car is running fine but just has a lack of power it could verywell be something else. The pump by the way since somewhere in the 80's has been put inside the gas tank. The rule of thumb is that should it leak it will leak in the tank and not out in the street. Some cars have a hatch in the back or under the rear seats where you can access the fuel pump. Most cars however you have to remove the tank. Have the fuel pressure checked as well as change the fuel filter before replacing the pump.

Fuel pump - 2003 Pontiac Grand Am

2003 Grand Am GT,You have to drop the fuel tank, remove heat shield, remove all lines, electrical plug ins, then you are ready to do straps,be sure to go get extra nut and bolts for straps (2) of them had to cut off old ones, once straps are off depending on how much gas is in the tank used jack to lower tank, fuel pump was a twist off with locking mechanisms on top of tank, used a rubber malet and screw driver to loosen, pull out after diconnecting plug ins etc, replace blue plug in for harness to fit new pump, was recommended since it could corrode, lifted tank back up connected wires, lines etc,put key in on position 3-4 times for pump to pump, car started 1st time,my first fuel pump took my son and I 2 1/2 hours, new pump $250.00 wire harness $15.00 and two new nuts and bolts $3.25
