SOURCE: no fuel

the fuel pump relay is up under the drivers pedals right hand side white relay, only thing is it wont be the relay thats at fault, it will either be the intank fuel pump/sender, or a loose terminal on the connector on the pump/sender under the black square panel under the rear seat base, under carpet, unfortunately it all comes as one unit. {worked for kings volvo dealer for 13 years} ade.

SOURCE: 2005 Volvo S40 T5 is losing power while driving

had this problem as well.. check the oxygen sensor on it (sometimes critters like that wire) or like shel said dirty injectors or filters could be it.. bad gas is also another one... dont go to places with old tanks or that is really cheap, run at least 91

SOURCE: volvo s40 t5 2005, water

Most likely the sunroof drains are clogged. It happened to mine, the floormats and floors were soaked, especially behind the drivers side. Volvo wanted to charge me $550 to clear them out and dry out the floors. Instead I took it home, rolled down the windows, parked it in the sun and let it dry out. Then I found a mechanic who blew out the drains with compressed air for only $20. He had originally quoted me $50-100, but ended up doing it for less. He said the two back drains are clogged. You can try sticking a small flexible wire down the front two yourself, then pour water down to see if it drains properly out the bottom of the car. When I looked I didn't see the two back sunroof drains, but my mechanic said they were clogged with leaves, you might be able to clear these yourself too. I would have never guessed that it was the sunroof causing this, because you don't see the water leak around the sunroof, you only see the water backing up on the floor. Don't take it to the dealership, it's a simple job and they will rip you off.

2005 Volvo S40 T5 that I drove for 2 miles, parked in garage and noticed engine was HOT! Took 5 hours to cool down. No leaks, coolant and oil levels are good. A/C is cold. What should I do? Thanks!

Possible water pump failure. Was temp guage showing "hot" ? , if not maybe coolant sensor issue. Had the car just been driven hard ? Any pressure in coolant expansion tank ?

Fuel pump problems

If you have checked fuel pressure with a gauge and it is low, you would need to know if the relay is sending power to the pump.

2005 volvo s40 t5 spins over great but wont start. hear some whinning noise and clicking uner the hood. any help?

Car not starting or turning over indicates towards multiple possibilities. It can be issue with battery or weak battery. But if battery checks out ok, then it can be starter issue or faulty alternator or problem with low fuel pressure or no spark at spark plugs due to dirty spark plugs or faulty ignition coil or injectors getting cracked or dirty and needs to be cleaned.

To confirm the problem, the basic troubleshooting is required.

Have a 2.4i volvo s40 2005 lost power coming off a roundabout and wouldn,t start again had it towed home and friend plugged in a diagnostic computer and came up with code PA0089 fuel pressure problem does...

This is not always the problem. Have you changed the fuel filter, checked the relay, and checked the gas cap(This keeps the fuel tank under pressure). try these first, and hopefully this is it. hope this helps

My volvo s40 t5 2005 is suddenly losing power as if running out of petrol, then power kicks in again. computers at volvo pick nothing up..scary..as i never know when it is going to happen.

if computers arent picking anything up its not an electrical fault, sounds like your surging because of bad fuel or blocked injectors, run some fuel cleaner through the car and see if that makes a difference. fuel filters may need to be changed but try the cleaner first.
