What is the reason for front grinding when turning

  • Steve May 20, 2015

Could be either worn wheel bearings, or CV axle, depending on what type of noise it is exactly

This due to either a worn wheel bearing or a worn front drive arm.

The most common cause of a grinding noise when turning is a worn front wheel bearing. What happens is that the weight of the car is shifted on to that wheel as you make the turn causing the worn bearing to make a grinding noise.

Possible drive shaft issue, does it occur in both directions (turning, left and right) or just one. Usually, drive shaft ware results in a knocking sound on turning either right or left depending on which side the ware is on. Grinding noise would suggest dry rather than worn shafts. I can't think of anything other reason for this that would not manifest itself with obvious damage and / or misalignment of either of the front wheels.

Grinding or rubbing noise in left front wheel, mostly when braking . What do i look for?

Grinding is a sign on brakes in need of replacement. Your pads are worn through and now the metal backing plate of the pad is grinding up against the rotor. Replace the pads and rotors asap to prevent further damage.

It sounds like a problem within the front differential, possibly broken spider gears. If so broken gear shrapnel may be jamming that wheels output shaft.

Window won't go up. Grinding noise like grinding

The window motors for some reason have plastic gears. You can rebuild or replace them, it is just a pain. I've used Epoxy to fill in the gears where they attach, if you do that, it will last about a year, depending on how often you use it, but it only costs a couple bucks as opposed to 80-150 or more for motor.

Have the front brakes checked alot of times the brake pads wear down to the point that the wear warning indicator starts to rub on the rotor or disc and makes a scraping sound when turning, your front brake pads are due to be replaced, I am 80% sure.

grinding on front wheel is caused by 2 things. a bad or loose wheel bearing,or worn out brakes, have them both checked
You might also want to check the level of fluid in the power steering reservoir - low or lack of fluid will also cause a noise (although more of a whining than a grinding).
