If you want to remove the speed governor, your going to need a tech 2 scanner or have the car dyno tuned and fined someone who will do it since it's a liability to who ever alters the speed governor. Good luck and hope this helps.

I have a 98 dodge ram 2500 5.9 4x4 automatic with o/d will not shift out of low untill a mile or two down road then does fine, had a service done and foung half of a clutch band in pan with metla shaving...

Aluminum metal shavings are very normal for this transmission if the pan has never been off. What do you mean by "clutch band".This unit has 4 sets of clutches 2 bands and 2 rollers clutches.I would suspect a bad govenor pressure sensor and or solenoid by the symptoms you describe. With a scan tool you can look at govenor pressure(actual)and desired govenor pressure.Govenor pressure should be at 0 sitting still and should increase with road speed( example 22 mph=22psi). Let me know if I can help.

My 1998 Jeep Cherokee will start but will not shift out of first gear. Any solutions?

Is the check engine light on? Does the speedo work? Probaly is either a bad output speed sensor on the trans tail hosing or a bad govenor pressure solenoid and /or pressure sensor on the valve body. Need to have it scanned. Output rpms should be zero at a stop and increase with road speed . Govenor pressure should be within 3 psi of desired govenor pressure . Desired govenor pressure should match road road speed.I would recomend replace the sensor and solenoid as a pair. Please vote and good luck!

it actually sounds as if the high clutches in trans is slipping you have to have a pressure test done but be prepared to replace trans

My 97 4l auto is not shiftin thru gears quick enough in the mid range, any advice?

Common problem is govenor pressure sensor and the govenor solenoid. With a scan tool you can see gov pressure and desired gov pressure. Govenor pressure should almost match vehicle speeed ( 15 mph = 15 psi ) . If govenor pressure is eratic or high or low in rlationship to desired gov pressure replace the sensor and the solenoid. Will need to pull the pand to do this.make sure when you check the fluid you check it in NEUTRAL with the engine running and not park.

I want to get rid of the govenor on my 1999 mercury cougar

Now by govenor do you mean the part of the car that controls the speed? This is a program installed into the cars computer and acts as a safety device to prevent over speed. Not sure that it can be removed but local speed shops may be able to reprogram your cars computer

1987 s10 pickup transmission leaking. two spots , Governor cover and from some sort of cable going from the transmission to the throttle body

The govenor cover has an o-ring seal. No problem, just be sure NOT to let the govenor fall out. Remove the cover with a screwdriver by tapping it outward with a hammer, gently. The throttle valve cable has a rubber seal, you can get from any trans shop. Unhook it from the top/throttle body first. Leave it mounted in the brackets. Then remove the bolt holding it into the trans, pull up and un hook the throttle valve linkage. Be sure to reinstall this in the reverse order. If when you go to hook it back up top pull the cable. You should feel spring tension on the cable if so then you have it right. Good Luck
