Why do think the key security is bad? If you still have a factory key, this is not the problem...if no factory key, you can take your VIN number or original key to GM dealer to get new key that they will program for you...Check for dirty battery connections:)
Is the security light on or flashing ? The yellow wire goes from the key switch to the neutral safety switch, then to the starter. So bypassing the neutral safety would make the starter crank the engine, but would have nothing to do with the rest of the engine.
change your signal light switch. i just had the same problem. cost me a 150.00 for an after market switch, comes with a full harness that plugs in under the dash.
This is a problem with chevy vehicles that have the system theft light. after a couple of years of using the key, the lock tumblers inside the ignition switch tend to wear out and so causing the system to think it's being stolen. Now you have to put the key in and turn the ignition to the on position, without cranking the car and leave it for 10 minutes until the theft light goes out. Very annoying especially if you're in a hurry. The dealer cost to repair the ignition switch goes for about $600-$800. that includes re-teaching the key.
Like most Chevy Vehicles, they come with a security lock out so that the car won't start if the radio is taken out or any number of things. Your best bet is to call a chevy dealer and ask for their service department to get the unlock code. You may need to go to the dealership with proof that the car is yours.
Sounds like an altinator problem. Have it checked out. If your altinator is bad it will not recharge your battery while its running and cause your car to lose all electrical power. When this happens, your car will not usually run for more than 10minutes or so.
