The usual approach here is to put in an exchange driveshaft with new CV joints both ends and new boots. It involves minimum labour which is cheaper, and it is best to do both sides unless you know only one side is no good.

There are two types of cv joints used. One type bolts on the other you have to pop out. Do this by prying it out with a big screwdriver. A c-clip hods it in and it will pop out for you. When reinstalling be sure it seats back in.

You can pick up an entire re manufactured axle assembly at your local auto parts store. In order to replace the assembly you will need to disconnect the tie rod end and the ball joint. Remove the spindle nut. Push the axle stub out of the hub. Now with a suitable container under the axle to catch spilled fluid pry the axle from the transmission housing. Install is the reverse of removal. For more detailed instructions and diagrams go to www.autozone.com vehicle repair guides.

SOURCE: need to know how to remove cv joint for clutch

Take out the drive-axle. Cut the old rubber-boot clamps off and discard them.
Remove the boot from the inner CV joint nnd slide the tripod from the joint housing.
Remove the snap-ring with a pair of snap-ring pliers.
Drive the tripod the tripod joint from the drive-axle with a brass punch and hammer; careful not to damage the bearing surfaces or splines on the shaft.

The process is a little involved. Try going to Autozone.com and see if they have a repair guide online to look at the process.

Hope this helps...

Dashboard warning light second on the dash board of a Toyota corolla E110 series we have replaced CV joints and i think there are slightly different in either the size or the sharp but the tooth are...

Hi P,
I think that the warning light that has come on is the ABS warning light. If you look at the CV joint which has been removed from your vehicle, you'll see a ring gear that looks like a cog on the widest part of the old CV joint. That cog ring should be carefully removed and then fitted to the new CV joint. That's the rotor which sends an electrical pulse to the ABS system. Without it the Abs system can't work.

Noise around the wheels of my corolla 2007

'Clunky' noises around the front wheels especially when turning indicates worn Universal 'CV' joints: this can sometimes be minimized by greasing the CV joints. This is a common condition if the CV joints rubber covers or 'boots' are split: if you don't need to replace the CV joints yet, you will need to replace the damaged boots with what are called 'split' boots.

Hope it helps: let me know how you go!
