The red battery icon lights up if your charging system is NOT generating enough voltage. Everything that using electric current on the vehicle runs off of the battery power, which is supplied by the alternator/regulator. If your alternator is not working your battery will eventually drain and car will die (headlights will kill it fast). First thing I would check would be if the alternator belt broke. If so ,replace it. If not, your alternator may have quit and needs replacing. Alternator is like 2 or 4 bolts to take it off (easy stuff). Once you get the electrical system working again, be sure to let you battery get a full trickle charge, as not to cause you problems later.

have vehicle scanned for trouble code https://dashboardsymbols.com/2019/09/mercedes-benz-warning-lights-and-symbols/ also in your owners manual will show what symbols mean
it is the immobilizer indicator ( red light far right hand corner of dash) it usally means that key is not communicating with computer , try another key ? or if your battery went dead this could cause communacation failure? check your ground to battery and then leave battery disconnected for a few hours , and if there is someone who can scan for codes and wright down any that are there and then clear codes, it can also just be a computer failure that has triggered that light.
The battery light would mean the alternator is not charging the battery, the engine light is either a check engine light for the computer or low oil pressure (red) and the tail lamp warning is for a bulb not working.
This is the factory installed "Security" light. It blinks to let you know that the security system is active, and to ward off potential theives. It's part of the factory anti-theft system. Also, it is a diode, and consumes virtually no battery power.
Normal condition; nothing to worry about.
Red - Power Yellow - primary power must be joined to the red blue - Remote Black - ground or negative To find your speaker wires check the color of the cord behind each speaker than match it with the same color in the dash. or the easy way is to use a normal 1.5v penlight battery and try each speaker cord behind the dash and listen to which speaker give off a crackling noise so you can get the balance on the cd player right. If u trying to find power in the car and don't have a tester than get a 12v light or bulb join the negative to the body and push the positive wire into each one of the holes in the factory plug in the dash one at a time until the light comes on. That is your positive the rest is easy. (DIY guru)
Hi Dean,
With regard to the alternator, you could check that the battery terminals and earthing straps are all tight and free of corrosion, which might mean removing them to see.
As for the other problems there are 1002 things that could be wrong and the first step is to get the fault codes read, either by a properly equipped VW mechanic or you can do it yourself with a £15 interface cable, a laptop computer, free VAG diagnostic software. Plus a willingness to learn!
One thought about the red text on the dash - check your manual to se what that means - it might mean "don't drive me because it will cause serious damage".
Hope this helps a bit. If so, a rating would be appreciated. If it doesn't help please "add a comment" instead and tell me more.
