Hey I solved this exact problem with my 1996 ford explorer XLT 4.0 ohv had no check engine light but it it would start and then sputter out it would only happen after I drove it and if I didn't let it sit for at least 20mins or long it do that would do that exact thing again but this problem should apply to all that have a purge valve if it is stuck open it will cause this exact problem from what I figured out is that my was stuck open and it was causing back pressure in the gas tank and because it was stuck open when you turn the car off it would push all of thoughts vapor back into you throttle body and in turn would choke it out until the u hit on the gas and burn it out or evaporated out of the top of the motor. I don't know if this is exactly what's happening but I went to bypass it so I connected the hose detectly to the throttle body and it did the same thing so I removed the hose completely and put plugs on both the vapor line and throttle body problems solved no more ruff idle or problems starting at all.

I had the same problem with My 1990 F150 300 6cylinder 4x4.....I cahnged all the same things you did, finally I sprayed a can of Gumout through the throttle body and it worked and ran great. Now I add fuel injector cleaner to the gas and a regular clean with the gumout and the problem has'nt come back. Good Luck to you and hope it works!

SOURCE: 1995 Ford Probe sputtering, dying. Won't start now.

to make sure the fuel pump is operating get in a quite place get in vehicle and turn ignition switch on position you should hear alittle buzz for about 2 seconds try this several times if no buzz is heard then the fuel pump is not running. check fuel pump relay in power box by switching relay with one of same type thare should be one of same type in the box if not then purchase one and try it. If the pump is ok then you know you have a firing problem. check to see if you have spark by taking one of the spark plugs out then hook spark plug wire to it lay it on engine and look for spark while someone turns the ignition switch as if trying to start car

SOURCE: My 1998 ford mustang v6 3.8l .. is hard to start

So what you saying is it's hard to start cold right? Something in computer system not allowing excess fuel to injectors when cold. Probably sensor Get auto electrician to sort it out otherwise you end up replacing things that there is nothing wrong with They got the right gear

it's your upper intake manifold gasket. it has a crack in it and needs to be replaced. your getting to much air and not enough gas. mine did the same thing.

My 2005 ford explorer sport trac will start but sputters and dies

One possible reason is a clogged fuel filter. You can check the fuel filter by blowing air through the "in" end. If no or little air is coming through, then you should replace the filter.

Why does my 1996 Ford Explorer try to crank up but then just die?

there can be many reasons, but a very common problem is a fuel problem. Take some starting fluid remove plastic line or cover of the throttle body and spray a little in and crank and if it starts spray in pulses of about two seconds at a time and see if it will stay running. If it stays running. You probably have a bad fuel pump. Its gonna be a process of elimination, and that is where I would start. only spray a little in before you try and start, it is flammable so want to be careful when and where spraying. If you want to try this. you can comment on the results, and I can advise you on how to find the problem. Had it been running fine prior, or was the check engine light on before this happened or any miss or rough idle of the engine prior?

1996 ford exptorer starts when cold but when it warms up and you turn it off it want start until it cools off again. what could be the problem?

If it cranks over fast. could be the ignition module or coil. If it is slow to crank, it is the starter.

Im having problems after ive driven the vehicle for about 45-60min. Then it will start to sputter and die out. It will crank and even start up sometimes but will then die out before I can get it into gear...

The fuel filter you change every 3 or 4 years
so you should know when that was done & that
is not your problem
A a bad fuel pump maybe but not related to the
getting up to operating temp then acting up
Your going to need professional help
You only change parts after you learn how
they work & how to test them & they fail
Can't pretend we are in the 1960's anymore
these vehicles are to hi tech & parts expensive

96 Toyota 4Runner sputters when starting when hot only!

how about the fuel filter. I didn't see this on your list and it should be done every 20000km and the air filter. I think its a fuel filter. not the pump. could be the coils but I would start cheap and change fuel filter first. when the pump is cold it pumps with more psi to blow passed the clooged filter after warm it is weaker and has a hard time pushing through the clog
