The third row bench is stuck on one side, 2000 Mercury Villager

The third row bench will not slide forward. When I move the lever the side of the seat on the lever will move but the side on the drivers side will not. I can hear the sound of something like a spring moving on the drivers side of the bench and something going in and out of place, but that side just won't budge. how do I get into the latch area under the seat to see if the mechanism is working properly?

SOURCE: 1998 Cougar power seat works in all directions except forward

THE MOST COMMON CAUSE OF THIS IS THE SEAT SWITCH (WIGGLE THE SWITCH WHILE YOU TRY TO MOVE THE EAT), IF THAT DOESN'T FIX IT U WILL NEED TO REPLACE THE POWER SEAT TRANSMISSION, A VERY EXPENSIVE PART, SO TRY THE SWITCH 1ST.

SOURCE: I am working on a 2000 Mercury Cougar and the hood

yes you have to go into the chamber from underneath with a crow bar or similar tool to release the hood latch. once opened check the cable and the latch and with a little luck a few squirts of WD40 is all that will be needed.

SOURCE: I have a 1993 Mercury

There are 3 electric motors on the seat. One is forward and back, one is front up and down, and one is rear up and down. The switch changes the polarity back and forth to achieve the proper movement. I think the wire color for the forward and back motor is yellow with a white tracer and red with a white tracer. so if the switch gives the motor positive voltage to the yellow with a white tracer and grounds the red with a white tracer the seat moves forward. If the switch gives the red with a white tracer positive and the yellow with a white tracer ground the seat moves back. (or the other way around). So we can safely say it is in the switch.
Good luck and God Bless

I have a old mercury villager ...i want to replace the middle row seat with last row seat ...is it posible...?

The middle row seat slides forward to the middle position (and several other positions as well.)

Owners manual explains how to slide rear seat foreard.
Remove middle row seats. Lift handle under 3rd row seat cushion on passenger side. Raise seat cushion up until it locks up. Then lift the lever on the passenger side of seat and pull seat forward until it locks in place.

if you don't have owner manual, go to motorcraft.com, pro center, tech info, owner manual.

My son pulled out and then snapped back the rear passenger side seatbelt on my '99 Merc. Villager Van, and it ended up locked into place near the floor inside the mechanism used to adjust the rear bench...

is the belt wrapped around the lever to adjust the seat?
Try sliding the seat to get some slack.
He may have it in ALR mode. That is when you pull it allthe way out, and then it ratchets it's way back in until it is all the way in. Then it reverts back to pulling out and going in w/o ratcheting.
This is to lock a child seat in.
So, you need to get it in all the way somehow.

I want to make my 1999 Mercury Villager Sport into a cargo loader, with just the front seats kept and the rest of the back empty. How do I remove the other 3 seats? So far, I can't get any of them to budge...

the middle seats come out easily. There are 2 handles you have to lift up on each of the bucket seats, they are in the front of the seat down by the seat tracks. After you lift them, tilt the seat upward in the front and rotate them backward. Then lift out of the hooks. Each seat is held down by 4 hoks.

The 3rd row seat is not designed to come out xcept by a technician. It does slide forward all the way up to the front seat. It has a sliding seat track.
First, lift the T handle under the seat cushion on the left front side of the seat. This will allow you to lift the seat bottom up all the way to lcok in the full up position.
Then, lift the lever on the same side of the seat and slide the seat forward. It will stop in 4 places.
Rear -Rear
6 inches forward of that.
another two ft to the second row seating position
full frward against the front seats.

Pleae rate as fixya if this helps.
