first ,, what fluid are we talking about , Brake just use standard brake fluid no is any better than the other , Power steering you can use the reg red trans fluid in this ,, window shield washer DUH, if you are talking about the transmission it take standard gear oil which is 90 weight , same goes for the rear gear oil , when you ask a question you must be more specific to what you need it for on your car,

Go to the AMSOIL site and they have a great way to check by your vehicle type. Their products are a little pricey, but worth every penny.
I believe they will recommend GLS. If it's leaking out, really need to get the seal replaced.

Where do I check the transmission fluid

Hi, follow the detailed instruction below on how to check the Transmission fluid on your Chevy Cavalier 2001.
  1. Turn the Cavalier on and put it in neutral. Make sure your hand brake is engaged to keep the car from moving while you work on it. Open your car's hood so that you have access to the engine.
  2. Look for your Cavalier's transmission dipstick. It should stick out from the body of the engine, and be clearly labelled as "transmission fluid." Refer to your Cavalier's owner's manual for a diagram of engine parts if you have trouble locating the dipstick.
  3. Pull the dipstick out and clean it off with a rag. Reinsert the dipstick and pull it out again. Check the end of the dipstick for your reading; the transmission level will be measured on the dipstick by labels like "low," "medium" and "high." If your dipstick has no fluid on it, it means that your Cavalier is almost out of transmission fluid and needs more. A low reading also indicates a need to add more fluid. If the fluid is low, add a bottle of transmission fluid, available for purchase at auto supply shops. Add fluid and repeat this process until your dipstick shows a reading of "high" or "full."

Where is the transmission dipstick for the 2001 chevy cavalier 2.2 liter?

There is no dipstick for the newer model Automatic transmission Cavaliers. There is only a red fill cap on the driver’s side on top of the transmission. The only way to check it is to jack up the car, making sure it level with a jackstand on each side of the car, and remove a small plug from the side of the transmission, underneath the car. It will be small and in an American size. It is either a 3/8" or a 7/16" size plug. Once it is removed, fluid will drain out if it is overfilled. Once there is no more fluid coming out, it is at it's proper level. If there is none coming out, then add more until it comes out and levels off. It has a capacity of about 11 quarts for the 4 speed models. The 3 speed models have about 7 quarts.

The dipstick for the 5 speed manual transmission is located on the back side of the engine. It will have either a white or yellow handle. It holds about 2 quarts of syncro-mesh transmission fluid. It is important that this fluid is used for the manual or problems will occur.
