Correct, its called the Plenum.... And it has to be removed.. you can loosen MOST of the things hooked to it, such as electrical plugs and EGR valve, ect and then "flop" it over out of the way.. you will need a new gasket for it before reinstalling it..
Sounds complicated, but it isnt...

you have problems with valves inside of motor
SOURCE: 2002 KIA spectra exhaust manifold
The exhaust manifold is right there as soon as you open hood , first disconnect neg batt cab, then jack up car remove bolts that hold pipe to manifold together , unplug any o2 that is in the way and that could get damaged. now from the top take shield off then take manifold bolts out. you might want to spray them with pb blaster and let set a few hours sense exhaust bolts love to break. Remember to use new gaskets installing new one.

If so that is called the plenum gasket, or intake plenum gasket. There are available aftermarket, places like NAPA should have or be able to get them. It is a common gasket to replace because of the necessity to remove the plenum to do a tune-up. NAPA gets about $7 for the gasket.

According to what I can find, you don't need to take the intake manifold off:
