The belt is slipping. Listen for a squeal. It could be the primary belt or the power steering belt itself. Tighten or replace belts. The pump & steering gear will either work or it won't. The only far fetched solution is the pulley slipping on the shaft but doubtful.

ty Marvin, there is no noise at all when driving. Yes, my mechanic everytime I called to say it was out or in.. was like it should not act like that it should stay out or in.

You may have a power steering pump problem or a internal leak in the rack and pinion .

  • John Paragios May 28, 2014

Hi Karen if there are no leaks and the pressure of the pump is good have the intermediate shaft checked. It's the shaft at the bottom of the steering shaft it connects the steering shaft to the rack and pinion the u-joint will seize and make the steering feel hard some times you have to have the shaft with the joint replaced.

2003 trailblazer has a knock in steering not all the time but sometime also a whining sort of like the power steering pump but dont do it much either

Have you been changing the power steering fluid every
30,000,miles when doing the trans fluid at 30,000

When you do that add some lubgard for P/S
just don't use the honda version

Get the Fluid at the dealers parts counter
& lubgard at auto parts

The knock may be a worn steering rack if you have one.
That happens when the fluid isn't changed

Clunking noises during acceleation, steering wheel went out,and leaking fluid. What could this be?

Some 99+ GM vehicles have problems with the intermediate steering shaft. There is a special grease that goes in the shaft but on some it leaks out and causes a "clunking" or vibration in the steering. If it is leaking power steering fluid then that can be solved by finding the source and replacing the part. The pump could leak, the line from the pump could leak and the steering rack itself could leak. Need to find out which one is the problem first.

A clunk during acceleration is likely in the drive train. Could be a loose universal joint or a lot of play in the differential.

Where do I find the bleeders for my power steering on a 03 chevy trailblazer?

There is no bleeder.  You have to turn the wheel from left to right without hitting the ends of the steering rack too hard and this will filter out any air if the cap is off the steering pump.  Will take some time for the whining noise to reduce as the air is mixed in with the fluid.
If you want to bleed or swap fluids you have to remove the low-pressure hose (one with a simple clamp directly off the pump) and run a hose from there into a pop-bottle 2litre plastic one.  When full put cap on and remove from area.  Put new fluid in as the old stuff squirts out. Should be able to flush the system with 1 or 2 liters of power steering fluid. Someone will have to turn the wheels at this time.  Try not to overfill. Be prepared for a bit of a mess and watch out for the drive pulleys and belts.
Good luck.

Power steering

Sounds like your pressure needs to be checked for your power steering pump or maybe if that is ok the spool valve seals inside your rack are worn and letting fluid past under pressure.

2003 Ford Escape leaking red fluid

Sounds like you need a new power steering hose. To verify this, I would dry up any wet areas on the hose and pump with a towel, get a flashlight and start the vehicle and try to determine the exact site of the leak which is usually at the ends of the hoses. Good luck!

Power Steering pump appears to be leaking but is full????

Just guessing. Could it be a warped brake disk? That would cause vibration. And vibration in steering might conceivably cause splashing out the power steering reservoir. You would know if the disk were warped by a shudder when you brake at hight speeds.
