I have to replace my water pump on my 03 Kia Sorento. I am being told that it should be covered under the 100,000 power train warranty by the shop. I called Kia who stated it has nothing to do with the power train???? The car only has 55,000 on it, seems odd the water pump would go so soon.

Change the fuel pump, that is the easy job :) What you have described would indicate that you have an issue that normally would be resolved by replacing the fuel pump assembly.
Who did the work? take it back. If it's DIY double check your work. Knoking as in metalic engine , or knocking as in gas preignition. If gas preignition, timing belt is off a few notches. If it's similar to this google: 2003 kia sorento interference engine
You may have valve timing off so much that your pistons are running into the valves. Bad news!
I want you to go to this url, it's the official KIA forum dealing with older Sorentos.https://www.kia-forums.com/2003-2010-sorento-forum/53820-sorento-crank-bolt.html It's free to create a login.
It details the need to replace the crank pulley bolt with a new one supplied by KIA. This bolt, if reused, can break causing a catastrophic engine failure. Do not buy any other bolt., it's not worth trying to save a few pennies.I have a 2005 Sorento and had my local KIA dealer do this job and other work as long as the front cover is off, replace the water pump, the timing belt idlers and tensioner assembly. It's cheaper to d all that at one time than to go back and have to redo the cover removal. Hope this helps.
This all depends on what engine you have and also if you are going to just do the belt. this car , if you have a 100,000 miles or close you should do the job right, right meaning replace the timing belt ,water pump and timing belt pulleys and tensioner, this could run about $1200.00.
the same job with the smaller engine could be $800.00
if you just do the belt alone which is not the right way but can be done then it may cost about $500.00 -$600.00
Yes, time to do these things.
FYI - you can purchase a complete kit for Water pump replacement which includes the timing belt, tensioner, gaskets, etc. You can't get to the water pump without first removing these items anyway, so do it before the pump fails or worse, the timing belt breaks and grenades your interference fit engine.
head gasket set (diesel) complete 90euros valves 22 euros each and about 2 days work plus cost of belt 45 euros ,so its not an expensive job but i did do a diesel version no petrols around here .as for warranty i do think you can kiss your you know what for this though ,come on its 7 yrs old and could have been clocked 3 times at least by now with dodgy owners and motor traders
its at dealer cost if they dont do the work i think it voids the warranty...if you go to a private shop you should be able to get it done much cheaper.but may void the warranty if hey say they have to do the work
i paid $1200 to do timing belt & waterpump .i could of done work myself but warranty requires licensed shop to do it to comply. if funds are low go to a shop and apply for credit. firestone, midas ect.they are rip offs but if approved a payment plan helps the pain
