SOURCE: Where is the camshaft position sensor located-99 Chevy Lumina 3.1
It's held down by one bolt right above the timing chain cover. It's next to the head that's facing toward the front of the car.
SOURCE: camshaft position sensor location
At the right rear of the engine under the intake manifold and to the left of the oil filter. You will probably need to go under the car to spot it, it's the sensor with a three-wire connector arranged vertically. But you can take it out from above. It's held in with a single bolt with an eight MM head located just above the sensor. Un-clip and remove the electrical connector. Unscrew the bolt with a socket wrench & extension bar. Wiggle and pull the sensor out.
here is a picture.

IF U GO TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ENGINE AND LOOK 4 INCHES BEHIND THE BELT IT WILL BE ON TOP OF THE TIMING COVER.THE WIRES WILL BE RED/WHITE,BLACK,BROWN/WHITE
SOURCE: 2006 hhr 2.4 won't start after replacing both camshaft position sensors.
Did you remember to plug in the MAF sensor?
Are you sure the air chamber is correctly installed on the throttle body?

Observe the scan tool CMP Desired, Actual, and Angle Variance parameters before a DTC sets. This may help to isolate whether a condition is specific to one camshaft, one bank, or caused by a condition with the primary crankshaft timing.

I'm sorry but when dealing with these problems your best bet is to take your vehicle to a qualified repair shop , I have never see a DIY'ER correct the problem with these , an in the end always end up taking it to the dealer .
