Why my 03 maxima idles high after 20 to 30 miles

My problem on my 03 maxima is that when I am driving 20 to 30 miles it idles very high. I then have to pull over for bout 15 minutes or so to get it to idle regularly. I need a solution on the fix please.

Hi Nick, Check for broken, loosely fitting or cracked vacuum tubing and damaged cracked or broken ducting. Regards John

The injector could definitely trigger a misfire code, but you also mentioned that you had a mass airflow sensor code , that code code be responsible for te sluggish moment of the vehicle and rpm going up and down. However if you have a misfire onCyl#6 and the coil and the plug is good the ONLY other thing to cause a mis-fire would be the injector. To check the injector get a NOID light, you can get one at almost any auto-parts place. To use unplug injector plug from the bad injector and connect it to NOID light the light should have a steady PULSE/ligt flickering. If light flickers fine then injector is bad and will need to be replaced. If light doesn't flicker or flickers intermittently then you may have a bad wiring to that injector. Check if wiring is good, then you may have a bad cam sensor or sensor gear. Good Luck and contact if you need more help. Thanks for using FIX YA

SOURCE: 1995 Nissan Maxima idle problems

Let's try the cheapest fix first. Change the fuel filter out. You'll probably see a brown looking goop in the gas, This is an "ETHANOL" problem. Read up on it. These are all related to so many idle and acceleration problems. Buy a can of SEAFOAM at the parts house. Fill up tank with Premium and add SEAFOAM. Then change filter out before 500 more miles. This should clean out the water and the goop and the carbon build up caused by the ETHANOL. Add a can of SEAFOAM every 3000 mile after that to a full tank of gas. It will keep your emissions, engine, and fuel lines clean. And will keep your car from line freeze up. Good luck.

03 nissan maxima died while driving and woulndt crank

Could be the fuel pump, filter , alternator or the coils. Check the oil level , then when you rotate the key to the position before starting listen to hear if there is a whirring sound followed by a bunch of clicking . This is a good sound and means it's not your fuel pump is good ( whirring). And the clicking will be the injectors.. If no sound check the fuel pump fuse and see if its blown. Next check and see if your alternator belt is still in one piece . If it is try a cheap tester for the alternator/ battery . ( most likely a fuel pump problem or plugged fuel filter because you mentioned it was starting to run funny , cut out but you managed a restart.) if it is the coils the first sign is usually a horrible gas mileage then a rough idle in the following days. Also check to see if the battery I fully charged... sounds like it was but weak batteries can cause lots of mishaps that seem unrelated. Personally I'd concentrate on the fuel or fuel fuses.

2000 maxima with 147,000 miles. the A/C compressor does not want to run when idling but will run at highway speeds

Your ac pulley may be worn so the engine needs extra boost and power to run it thats why when it is in optimal power (highway-- high engine power)as opposed to idle(low engine speed) it runs. You might need it replaced.

Engine light was on and engine idles rough.

these O2 sensors are cat convertor check sensors. id be checking cat convertors and hopefully you should try replacing if not all ready is the front bank 2, O2 sensor
if you have scanner can you see fuel trims in data display to confirm high fuel trim only on bank 2 either +-5 or more indicates problem and if bank 2 sensor 2 has fixed high 700mv reading cat no good(warm idling)

I have a 1995 maxima with hickup or hesitation

It sounds like a clogged catalytic converter. If you can unbolt it; try unbolted it and see how it runs. Also try unplugging the sparkplug wire one at a time and see if the shaking gets worse or stays the same. When you pull a spark plug wire and the car stops shaking then that cylinder isn't firing. Watch out though, you'll get a nasty shock if you do it without insulated pliers. It could be a stuck valve or bad ignition.
