I thought I had to replace mine- couldn't see through them. I tried an online tip instead - whitening toothpaste. Rubbed it in with an old toothbrush and they are brand new.

A good wash with regular neutral car shampoo and water is generally all you need to keep the headlights clean. Use a soft sponge and dry it with a flannel or some cloth. If the headlights are scratched/foggy you might want to use the 3M Headlight Restoration Kit (never used it personally, but it's rated 4.5 stars on amazon).

Wash your headlights well using soapy water; rinse and dry. Dip a corner of your soft rag in denatured alcohol, which you can find at most paint or hardware stores. Rub the solution on your lens in small, circular motions. Repeat until your headlights lose some of their yellow hue.

How to clean Toyota Sera headlights

***Note, this is for Toyota Sera, not Starlet!!***

Because Toyota Sera's are both old in age & technology, there are some maintenance techniques around to help to keep them looking their best. One such technique is cleaning tired looking headlights that have clouded with age. New, basic units (no bulbs or rubber covers), cost £90+VAT from Toyota!

The lense of these headlights is plastic, unlike cars of today that are glass. Because of this they become cloudy over time, especially as these cars were first produced in 1990. This causes very dull light and can be an MOT failure

To clean them properly, they need to be taken apart. There are 5 metal clips around the unit, these need to be removed first, as well as all rubber covers on the back and bulbs. The two halves of the unit are glued together with a special adhesive, the only way to get them apart is to put them in the oven, around 130degs C, for about 10 mins. I suggest keeping your eye on them and keep checking to see if the glue has softened, as it is very easy to melt them (I know from experience)!

Once the two halves have been separated, the lens itself is in two pieces, these can be separated by removing the screw at one end and removing the inner plastic lens.

There are a couple of proven methods to clean the plastic lens,

1. Use T-cut or similar product such as Mothers Polish to remove years of ingrained dirt and cloudiness
2. Use the finest grade Wet n Dry paper with washing up liquid and water, rub in one direction gently, followed by T-cut type product.

Finally, polish the inner and outer surfaces of the lens (I use Mer).

Re-assemble the lens, heat the two halves in the oven again until the adhesive softens, assemble the unit together, allow to cool, then re-attach the metal clips, buls, etc. And hey presto, your headlights will look like new again!!

How is the headlight lense removed? It's in need of cleaning.

Your headlights should be the one piece plastic headlight assembly if that's the case the lens doesn't come of it all comes out as one unit. You can buy products at your local auto parts store that you can buff the lenses almost back to new.The older models had the standard glass bulbs that were held in by a chrome bezel.

1999 taurus has foggy headlights.

Most Auto Stores sell a headlight solution that cleans the fogginess of your headlight. Assuming your headlight looks dirty and cloudy as would a pool, a simple solution is to pick up the cleaner at any auto place. That is a lot cheaper than buying a new headlight.

Dim Headlights

You can polish the headlight lenses to make them clear again. You can buy a kit with polishing compound and a buffing wheel, or use the same polishing compound that you use to take scratches and haze out of your cars paint, or silver, brass or copper polish would work as well. You can even mix some tooth paste and baking soda, use a damp rag and rub the paste over the lens buffing really hard and fast, then wipe the lens off and buff it with a clean dry rag. Do one lens at a time and the tooth paste polish trick takes more work than polishing compound but it does work.

How can I replace or clean my headlight globe of a 1998 Galant

Headlight globe, meaning the inside of the headlight? If thats what you mean, only way to do it, is to take the lens off, and in order to do that, you need to take out the headlight, take off the rubber backings and take out the light bulbs. Then preheat your oven to 210 degrees, stick your light in there for 10 minutes, and pry apart the lens, since the glue will melt. Dont forget to undo the clips that also hold the lens to the housing. After you pry off the lens, clean or whatever you need to do. Then reseat the lens and hook the clips, then back in the oven it goes for 10 mins. Then hold pressure on the lens untill glue hardens.

Hope that helps.

They will not have or sell replacement globes, it will come with the whole headlight.
