SOURCE: do i need to bleed

No, but you should remove some fluid from the reservoir before collapsing the pistons or you might spill fluid out the reservoir.

Please see my tip at http://www.fixya.com/cars/r6016398-replacing_brake_pads_shoes . These are generic instructions. If you get stuck or need specific instructions for your car, please get back to me with model, year and engine info.

How to bleed front brakes on 1997 mark 8 lincoln

You need a special tool to bleed the brakes because of the ABS system. Any shop that does brakes will have the tool (tire shops are good places to go cost wise), the special tool is very expensive so buying it is not an option, just have them bleed the brakes for you.

2001 chevy venture van the brake pedal is soft and it goes down to the floor is it the m/c or the abs unit

The symptom you have is caused by a defective Master cylinder. Bench bleed the master before installing to keep air out of the ABS hydraulic control unit, if air gets in the unit the car will need to bleed of air using a special tool at the dealer. Do not get brake fluid on any painted surfaces or in your eyes, use proper safety gear. Only use special tubing Flare nut wrenches on the brake line fittings or you will round them off. Making up new lines is a whole other thing that requires special skills and tools.

Unfortunately it takes special equipment to bleed the brakes on a vehicle with ABS brakes. If you can get the car to a shop it's best to have them bleed the air out of the system.

98 corvette what is the proper procedure to bleeding the brakes

  1. Raise the vehicle on a suitable support.
  2. Remove all four tire and wheel assemblies.
  3. Inspect the brake system for leaks and visual damage.
  4. Inspect the battery state of charge.
  5. Install a scan tool.
  6. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. With the scan tool, establish communications with the electronic brake control module (EBCM). Select Special Functions. Select Automated Bleed from the Special Functions menu.

    1. If a DTC is detected, check for the cause and repair as necessary.
    2. If the brake pedal feels spongy, perform the conventional brake bleed procedure again.

  9. When the desired pedal height is achieved, press the brake pedal in order to inspect for firmness. Remove the scan tool.
  10. Install the tire and wheel assemblies. Inspect the brake fluid level.

Bleeding brakes, The front brakes will not bleed out

In order to bleed the brakes on this car u need a special tool that holds the ABS Hydraulic control units pop-it valves open, without this special tool that plugs into the ABS you can't bleed the air out of the ABS control valve module, u either have to have the dealer do this or someone who has a factory equivalent of the ABS special bleeding tool, Snap-On tools most likely makes these, they are horribly expensive.

1991 corvette brake syatem

You need to bleed this system with the special tool that holds the ABS solenoids open, it plugs into the ABS brake controller, if you don't do this there is no way to get the air out of the system, that is why your pedal is low.
