Most often this is from a vacuum leak around the injector base. You can spray a quick shot of liquid fire near the base pillar and listen for an increase in RPM's However, as this is a flameable product, if you aren't confidant in its use, you should just take it to a mechanic.

What might be causing the problem listed below?

Could be bad ignition module as they have a low rpm section and a high rpm section. Low side may be failing as it heats up. Hard to test for this as parts store testers may not see the problem.

Idles fast problem

That would be your engine "choke" functioning. It's not a problem. The choke engages when engine is cold and shoots extra fuel to the cylinders to idle the engine up especially in cold with. Once the engine has sufficiently warmed up, the engine will idle back down.

Engine RPM will raise after engine is warm. This

COULD BE THE IAC VALVE "IDLE AIR CONTROL".
LOCATED ON THE THROTLE BODY, TRY REMOVING AIR INTAKE HOSE AND WITH INTAKE CLEANER SPRAY OPENING AND ALL HOLES IN OPENING WITH CLEANER.VALVE IS STICKING AND RAISING IDLE. CAN'T HURT AND YOU GET A CLEAN THROTLE BODY SERVICE.

If it's not vacuum leaks, it will be you idle control sensor.

Low rpm's in idle when heating/cooling system is on & surges.

Check your EGR or your Idle control Valve. This can cause a problem with your irratic idling
