96 HONDA CIVIC WILL NOT GO OVER 300 RPM

Check the fuel pressure. It could be that the fuel pump is going bad and starving the engine for fuel. Also check the fuel filter.

check engine light? check oil level, low oil possible engine damage.is there gas in tank?guages can lie, add a gallon if not sure. when key is turned on, not all the way to start, can you hear the fuel pump, an electric motor sound? have someone listen above the tank with trunk open or listen under tank. past this, check if spark plugs are working, remove a plug, put wire back on, rest plug on metal to ground, turn motor and check for spark. please rate answer.

My 1994 honda civic v-tec will turn over, get a spark and it seems to be getting fuel. But is still will not crank.

if it turns over and you are sure there is spark the only thing left is fuel. Get a can of starting fluid and have someone spray it into the open air filter box while trying to start the motor. if it starts the problem is fuel pump and or fuel filter

96 civic fuel presure lost

The fuel pump is designed to run only when the motor is turning, On this model vehicle it is controlled electronically, either through the distributor or the ignition system on the vehicle. I would check the fuel filter for sure, but as far as what is causing the problem a few more questions need be answered from my end.

Starting problem with honda civic

Next things to check are fuel and spark, remove a spark plug and with the wire attached crank the motor, if you see spark in the plug then it's not a spark issue and probably a fuel problem. If there is no spark could be bad plugs or wires, or distrubitor cap. To check fuel remove injector cover and crank motor, if there is no fuel coming out then check fuel filter, fuel pump.

Good Luck

You might have to change the spark plugs or at least have them cleaned.

Wont start

Hi,

All gasoline fed engines would need two crucial systems; fuel and ignition. Since you have determined that there is fuel, you may want to check the ignition system - plugs, hi-tension wires, distributor or in some cases igniter or computer box (whichever is present).

Should sparks at the end of the plugs be present, you may want to go back to the fuel possibility and verify that fuel is coming into the carbs or into the high pressure injector pumps. Electrically, there could also be a fuse for the injector pump.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
