CRANKSHAFT/CAMSHAFT SENSOR DEFECTIVE

That could be caused by any number of thing's ! Electronic ignition , engine computer , sensors , fuel pump possibly . Don't suspect anything , test and if you don't have tools or knowledge suggest you watch videos on youtube for crank sensor testing . Check engine compartment wiring harness for lose connections , wires that are bare and touching ground . Check for small animal nests , rodents like to chew on wire's . Electronic componets can cause problems like this but the vehicle won't start up again till the componet cools down . Could be crankshaft sensor,I had the same problem no code.when i replace sensor was OK.

If you haven't done so already, you would need to find out what is missing when it won't start to proceed.
Does it have spark to the plugs, fuel to the injectors, and so on.

i have not heard of fuel injected vehicles vapor locking, best thing to do is have it put on a scanner, it is far cheaper than changing a lot of parts.

When a catalytic converter is coming apart on the inside, it can restrict air flow and power, and it usually happens or gets worse when the vehicle has been running long enough to generate a lot of heat. Once it cools down, the symptoms can completely go away until you begin to drive it again. It's one possibility.

When the ignition coil works properly, the electric current through the resistance is detected as voltage drop. This is confirmed for every ignition event with the crankshaft sensor and the camshaft sensor. If ECM detects a malfunction, no ignition is possible, so the engine would not start. If there is no ignition signal for a predetermined cycle for one or two ignition coils, an ignition coil circuit failure exists.

Sounds like the true problems of an EGR. Replace or clean first and the problem should go away........Hope this helps you out.

definatly crankshaft position sensor, had same problem hour ago and changed it and started right up.. crankshaft positions sensors are known to cause this problem, stays open circuit when hot.

I hate to tell you this, but there is not Camshaft Position Sensor on any 1.9L Single or Dual OHC. I assume you had someone read a Diagnostic Trouble Code from your PCM. They probably told you that you needed a Camshaft Position Sensor, and then offered to sell you one. I would recommend changing your spark plugs and your plug cables with FACTORY REPLACEMENTS. This will usually make the DTC go away. Aftermarket plugs and wires rarely work well for this engine. If you are looking for a CRANKSHAFT position sensor, look between the engine and transmission on the back side of the transmission. It is also known as the "transmission input speed sensor". More often than not though, your engine will not fire up if the Crank position sensor is not working. Hope this helps.

On the 1999 - 2000 5.7 vortec engines the distributor gears wear causing the timing to change 2 or more degrees. The ecm is designed to shut down at 2 or more degreedifference. This is in a GM bulletin that recommends replacement at 160k miles. Mine went out at 150k miles. Very similar driving symtoms until it quit running. Both cam sensor codes were set on mine though, not the crank sensor.
