Northstar starters are indeed on TOP of the engine, directly below the intake manifold, which is under the pretty Northstar logo'd plastic cover.

It is located below, the first thing you want to do is disconnect the ground from the battery and then move to the bottom and remove the starter. It will be located more than likely by the oil filter at the rear of the motor.

I have never in my life seen a starter on the top end of the motor. The starter turns the flywheel which is accessed on the bottom of the motor. The easiest way to find it is follow the positive wire from your battery. I have done further research on your vehicle and found that it is at the top end of the flywheel which is very odd. here is a diagram if it comes up along with instructions. Please accept my apologies and I hope this helps.

    Removal & Installation

Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.

        Remove or disconnect the following:

        Negative battery cable

        Intake manifold

        Starter electrical connectors

        Starter motor

Where are the bolts located on 1998dodge caravan starter ?one on top of starter and one on bottom?

Yes Liz thats right for most all starteds in any vehicle.
The motor it self takes up a lot of room so they have 2 ears top and bottom off set slightly and most are easy to replace .
Make sure to disconnect the negitive battery cable first lots of power to a starting motor enough to weld a wrench to the engine block if it touches bolth at the same time .
tip

Can't start engine, battery is good and all you here is a clicking sound?

The contacts in the starter motor solenoid are worn, the clicking that you can hear is the solenoid being pulled in, but not making contact to allow the main battery voltage/current from getting to the starter motor. Their are 2 things you can do to get you out of trouble if you are stuck in a place and no assistance is available.

Rock the car back and forward whilst in gear, stop and try again.

Tap the side of the starter motor cover with a piece of wood or soft hammer. This will wiggle the contacts and allow for starting.

These may get the car up and running, but ultimately the contacts will have to be replace. This job is usually not difficult or expensive, and is the first thing to check and replace, before replacing the whole starter motor. It is a much more cheaper option then replacing the starter motor assembly.

If you can find the starter motor, the solenoid is the small round or triangle box on top or to the side of the starter motor, usually with two small wires going to it.

BELOW ARE TWO CONTACTS FROM A LANDCRUISER 1HZ ENGINE. THE LEFT ONE IS FULLY WORN OUT AND THE RIGHT ONE ABOUT 50% WORN.

My 2003 Isuzu Rodeo will not start it clicks when I try to crank it.

If it is just clicking then the starter motor is not turning over and you will not be able to start the engine.

You need to check...
1. The starter motor relay. If it has failed you will get no power to the starter motor and you replace it with a new relay. Your owners manual shows you the location of the relay.

2. Check the power supply to the starter solenoid and then from the starter solenoid to the starter motor itself.

3. If these are getting the correct current then you may have either a failed starter motor solenoid or the motor itself. Do not just replace the starter motor and assume that will fix the problem (as some people do) without doing all the essential wiring and current checks. If there is a wiring failure or the starter unit is not receiving the correct power you need to address that issue.

The P0240 code I believe has nothing to do with the starting issue. It relates to the catalytic converters on the exhaust system.
Read about the issue from the link below or look up numerous other references.

Replace old starter with new but still car won't start

Have you checked the stater solenoid (located on the top of the starter motor) wire for 12+ volts when the key is held in the crank position, do that first, you may have a defective starter switch.

Replace starter motor in daihatsu pyzar

1997 Daihatsu Pyzar starter motor located bottom of engine bay at the back between engine and framework below front window of car

Its in a real nasty place

(see picture)

Very tight space and to remove both starter motor bolts, you need to access it from above engine and below engine

- Disconnect battery connections from battery first

- Disconnect wire from starter motor

- Remove starter motor bolts

- Remove starter motor via top of engine (lots of jiggling involved due to wires in the way etc)

Good luck!!

Location of 2.4l 2005 dodge stratus crankshaft sensor

On the Internet there are a lot of different descriptions of where the CRANKSHAFT position sensor is on the 2005 Dodge Stratus sedan 2.4L engine.

HERE IS WHERE I FOUND IT ON MY CAR:
it was on the front of the engine, behind/under the starter motor.

HOW CAN YOU TELL IF IT IS AT THIS LOCATION ON YOUR CAR:
- One website said that if the 8th number/letter in your car's VIN number is an X then it is located here (this was true for my car).
- To confirm: See if there is a wire (3 wires together actually) leading under the starter motor (see #2 below for a description of the starter motor's location).

THESE ARE THE STEPS I TOOK TO REPLACE IT:
1. Disconnect the positive terminal of the battery. (Turn the wheels all the way to the right, remove/pull back the black plastic cover of the front of the left wheel well, thus exposing the battery, and then unbolt the red positive terminal). You NEED to do this because you'll be working with the starter motor and you don't want to get shocked.
2. Unbolt the starter motor. You can see and access the starter motor from the top. It is situated on the front of the engine block, below the air intake (see the picture). It just has two 15mm bolts on the right side holding it on. You should be able to get a ratchet or wrench to them from the top, or you may even be able to get at them better from below.
3. Lift the starter motor up out of the way. I left all of the wires connected to it, and simply tied it with twine to the plastic air intake above to keep it out of the way.
4. You should be able to clearly see and access the sensor now (see the second picture). It has one bolt, and the plug. *Make sure to put a little oil on the rubber seal of the new sensor before inserting it.
5. Put everything back, in reverse order.

A COUPLE OF THINGS TO NOTE:
- I believe this applies to model years 2003-2006, and to the 2.4L Chrysler Sebring sedan of the same years.
- You probably don't need to jack your car up for this repair. I had my car up on ramps, but in the end I did everything from the top.

What is the solenoid?

The solenoid is part of your engine's starting system. Basically, it is the part of the starter motor that accepts the electricity, and kicks the starter motor into action. On a lot of cars, this is a permanent fixture on the starter motor, and both have to be replaced at once if there is a problem. More rarely, the solenoid is a semi-separate part that can be removed apart from the starter motor and replaced without having to remove the starter motor. The specific location, and design of the solenoid varies from car to car, but it's function remains constant.
