How can I start my car taht is stuck in park and will not start?? It is not the battery. Did the turn key to first position. Got the car out of park. It still will not start.
SOURCE: I have the same problem with my 2006 PT Cruiser .
sounds like you have broken shifter cable..if you remove battery and tray..you can see if cable is moving shift lever on trans..if it is,you may have something broken in trans on valve body

This happened to me as well. You have to take apart the area around the shifter. There will be 2 screws under the rubber mat under the ash tray area. Once that is out you need to follow the shifter wire which you will see if you look at the top of the shift area. Use your finger and run it down the wire till you feel a plastic peace. Once you feel it push it back and you will see your shifter start to move. Once you get it out of the park area you will be good to go until you put it back in park again.

Hi there,
try turning the wheel to the right/left while turning the key in the ignition. You have to apply some force. Your car is probably outliving its road life.

SOURCE: I have 1996 sebring my key is stuck in the ignition
first thing to try would be to remove car from park to a gear and then put firmly back into park...... then retry,
if doin that a few times dont work, you will prob need to replace the ignition cylinder....... make sure it appears gear selector levers parts are all in their place,, visually that is

Does the car have a factory security system? it may have a starter kill on it.
also check for voltage at the starter solenoid while someone holds the key to start position, you could have a faulty ignition switch.
the engine light stays on when the key is on until engine starts.

It was in park. When i turned the key to the first position and stepped on the brake it released. I then tried to start in neutral. Still no sound at all. put it back in park and it stuck there again.
ok i would give the starter a few good hits with a hammer if there is still nothing i would think it is the neutral safety switch
No noise when starting?Check the fuses at the fuse box in engine bay, pull lid off and you will see four 20 amp fuses in a row and it will be the 4th one down from the top of the first row,It is the start/eng.fuse...I used a 15 amp and now it deems to be fine...good luck.
