Easy steering to left, difficult steering to right

Just had a mechanic look at car (2005 yukon xl). He said it was something broken in the right side of the steering box and also recommended replacing power steering pump because of potential contamination. He showed me that the steering fluid was much darker than it should be (it was reddish brown). Does he sound right? Wanted to compare notes with others.

He sounds right on that one..sounds like bad seal in the steering box or bad valve.--as far as replacing the power steering pump---i wouldnt do that unless its growling right now. the lines will be disconnected from the steering box, now is a great time to flush the power steering pump. but yes, i think he is on the right track with the steering box being bad

2004 Yukon XL in drive and will not shift

Is the selector stuck in drive? If so you might want to check the neutral switch which is on the steering column inside the truck. It sounds like you might have broken something in the switch. Hope this helps.

Easy to steer right but difficult to steer left

Your best bet is to take it to a repair shop. They have a special tool they hook up to check the steering system. You want to start putting parts in without knowing what is actually causing the problem. Some of these trucks also have a rack type system.Hope this has been helpful.Good luck.

Turn car off - Remove power steering cap, and turn streering wheel hard right or left and fluid should pour out (cover surroundings with rags.) If so, check your power steering pump.

Power steering problem when turning right

I'm not sure if that truck has rack and pinion steering, or a steering sector. In either case, it sounds like you have stuck valve and the hydraulic pressure is fighting you, instead of helping you. When ever you turn the steering wheel the valve is supposed to move and direct the hydraulic oil pressure to help you steer. The valve is built into the sector or the rack and pinion, you may have to replace the assembly. There are companies that recondition those items so you might want to shop around.

4LO problem

Sounds like you may have a problem with the power steering pump. Notorious for these pumps shaft to break, causing "armstrong" power steering. As far as the 4wd low problem, ick.
