When driving it seems to shift from 1st to 2nd ok. But it may or may not shift to 3rd and when it does the RPM's are really high. It will not shift to 4th or 5th.
The problem may be a faulty shift solenoid in the transmission. Have the vehicle scanned for trouble codes, which will give information to further diagnose the problem. Auto Zone and Advance Auto will do a scan. Once you have the codes, post them on this site, again with vehicle made, model, engine size, and year. We can then further assist you.
Then vehicle is a 2004 Envoy XL SLT with a 4.2L Inline 6 Cylider, I have scanned the vehicle with my scanner and no transmission codes come up. It did have one for the MAP sensor that I reset and then drove vehicle with no change. Also some times it don't shift to third and when it does (or seems like it does) I can move the shifter to third and it seems like it kicks down. Its pulling like 4k at 40 mph.

Something missing here. Do you have a scanner or code reader? How old is it? Since you had a MAP sensor code. Some MAP sensors are built in with the MAF sensor. It can affect shifting. But not what your stating. You have a 4l60e transmission.Sounds like to me you lost a shift solenoid. I would replace both and the EPC solenoid, along with the internal transmission harness. This doesn't guaranty a fix. I use a scanner and watch what the transmission does.
