Engine started running rough. battery light came on, lost power steering, started smoking out the tailpipe. i have been told that i need a new power steering pump and a new belt. got the belt and it was tt long i was told. after further inspection i was told i was missing a pulley hence why the belt was too long cause it had to be wrapped around another pulley. which pulley do i need and how hard is it to replace?
If its smoking out the tail pipe a belt is not going to help.. I suspect you either have the wrong belt or possibly you are missing the belt ajuster. Go look at a 2000, prizm and see what you are missing. OR Most cars Have a belt diagram sticker under the hood showing the routing of the belt.. check to see if your car has this. It will answer your question.. DON'T SPEND TOO MUCH MONEY ON THIS CAR Till YOU MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT HAVE MAJOR ENGINE DAMAGE.

The power steering pump shaft may have broken inside the pump. I have seen this happen on a these trucks. Have your pump checked.

there should be holes in power steering pump pulley that when positioned correctly the bole should go through one of those holes, if not then you have to remove the pump

the puff of smoke is one of 2 things, dampness in the exhuast from setting over night,like ice water on a hot day ,the glass draws miosture,this is harmless, the other is worn valve seals,a puff of gray blue smoke then it,s gone,harmless.,but if it smokes while your driving it after 2 minits you may need new positive check valve $5 part,if it uses excessive oil have it checked
